I have just bought a 91 750ss (no 106) its had 1 owner from new and is in a bad way,the owner informed me he blew the original dry engine that had been tuned by baines in the late 90's and replaced it with a wet clutch model, has anyone converted a wet to dry?..i previously owned a 91 model in the 90,s H366 KWL does anyone own it?
Another white frame/wheels at last. I have no 448 with the original engine. There was a 91 one on eBay the other month that had a wet clutch engine, there is little difference, though i may be wrong, i don't think you can make a wet clutch into a dry one. Did you get the original motor with it?? Pics please in the gallery. And sorry for being rude but welcome to the mad house
It also looks like its had a second disc added to the front. Mines on nearly 50,000 miles. The tank will be full of holes I bet too!! Is it full or half fairings?
it is a half fairing the same as my first one,it will be going back to a single disc, the rotors are ebc prolite but I think a std disc will be going on,the tank luckily has been left 5-6 years with fuel in it so it looks ok,that wouldn't be a problem as I have welded hundreds of tanks, have you any photos of yours on here? I am building a ttf2 replica for a mate from a
from a ????? Yes there's photos of mine in the gallery. Its a shame the engines gone, thought about the upgrade to a 900 if you want the dry clutch??
lol....600ss engine wise I will stick with 750 and convert it to dry,im thinking of twin pluging is also,i have stripped the carbs tonight they are in a right state, the needles were glued into the emulsion tubes!!!!
Interesting. I have owned #132 and #118, both were originally single disc at the front, but interestingly they both had the gold Brembo calipers rather than the black ones on the bike in the pic. I think that you might be in for a tough job converting to a dry clutch. The parts from a 900ss won't go onto the 750 crank case, because the clutch on the early bikes has the slave cylinder inside the outer case, and the clutch itself works 'inside out' compared to a more common Ducati dry clutch. All the early dry clutch 750ss parts are like rocking horse poo, and have probably been snaffled up by the TTF1 racers and the guys with early 851s. Twin plugging the heads probably isn't worth the trouble, just shovel in a 900ss engine, they are much more receptive to tuning anyway.
You can still get the slave cylinder NOS, not sure about the cover though. Do you know what happened to your old bikes chewy? Mine has single goldline caliper on the front, was going to convert but changed my mind. Mine too is half fairings
the front brake is going back to single gold line, the original owner had the black calipers put on,he gave me a ton of paper work he has for the bike services, upgrades etc intresting reading.Baines also fitted a oil cooler in the nose of the fairing, the deads will be cuming off so the twin plug wont be a big deal.
I thought it looked a bit bussy round the light area, good place for the oil cooler, won't get full of road dirt. I see your getting excited by the way you spelt "cuming" no wonder the carbs were all blocked up!!
#132 was stolen in 1999, and broken for spares by the theiving scum, then #118 was up for sale in the local paper 3 miles away from my house about 3 weeks later. I still have #118, but as soon as I bought it, I put a twin disc front end on, then a Dynojet kit, with Viper cans (which I never liked, because they never fitted properly), and a home made floating rear caliper. Then a few years ago, it got a tuned 900ss engine, swinging arm, and rear wheel, Sil Motor high level cans, MADSL spaghetti front pipes and FCR41s. I've still got all the original bits in case the originality bug bites, but I kind of like it this way. Future mods are probably going to be suspension related, probably 748/916 forks, as the front compression damping feels too stiff, and my forks aren't adjustable. I have kept the white on black decals, and it still claims that its a 750ss on the tail.
