Can anybody tell me if a 1998 750 SS steel swinging arm will be a direct swap onto my 1995 900 SS? My aluminium swinging arm has an M10 bolt in one side which I'd like to try and fix somehow whilst keeping the bike on the road.
Thanks, I think, more or less, I'll check its a carbed model one al. Borgo, does yours have spindles and adjusters?
Sadly no spindles or adjusters. I've a feeling you can use your own spindles, leaving you short of just the adjusters - hoping someone can confirm, or correct
Your pivot spindle will probably be the non-circlip at the ends type, but will fit with a slight protrusion either side of the steel one......the plastic end caps will cover them. This is because the ally swingarm without circlips is slightly wider than the steel swingarm.........If you do have circlips, the spindle will be even longer, but it isn't much more. The adjusters are completely different...........I have spare outside plates for the steel swingarm, but not spare guts. The rear axle is also different.......the ally swingarm axle has a nut machined with a 'washer' as part of each nut at each end, but the steel swingarm has an axle which has a large socket head at one end and a large nut and washer at the other end.
I have a complete steel swingarm with adjusters and axle etc (apart from the pivot spindle) which you could borrow for a while (it's my OEM one), but postage to where you are would be quite a bit........
Thanks very much Al, that's really generous of you. Wonder how much it will cost to get things delivered when the nats vote for independence But I think I will put an offer in for that complete swinging arm on eBay, it is a carb one and I like having my shed full of stuff. Neil.
If you find you are short of a part or not sure what's what, let me know and I can either lend you the appropriate bit or take a pic of what you should have. AL
