  1. I stripped my 750 heads down at the weekend and measured some of the biggest closing clearances in Ducati history......12 and 14 thou and two of the retainers were broken,0 clearance on the openers.

one good reason why you should replace them when doing the shims.

  2. I read some where that just replacing the retainers can sort out the valve clearances as the can compress over time. nice to see your getting on with it, we might both get to the super sausge for next year!!

  3. Agreed on the MBP collets, I have them on both my bikes. I fitted them to the 916 a few years back and haven't needed to adjust any clearances since. When I got the Monster there were a couple of broken half rings so I fitted the MBP to that and am not expecting any bother.

The only, minor downside on the desmoquattro is that you need modified opener shims and whilst these cost no more than the normal shims you do need to change them all.

On the 2v you use normal shims.

  4. good advice thanks,i have replaced them with OE but the engine will be coming out in winter for porting etc so i will be fitting MBP collets.
