750ssie Base Gasket Oil Leak

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Adambomb, Dec 25, 2018.

  1. Hello, got a leaky base gasket? Common on the 750ssie it seems. I’d already tried using Threebond on the vert cylinder on my ‘02 model but it started leaking again. The earlier models had an o ring on that oilway, so I set about retro fitting one using a 10mm sheet cutter I’d spied on eBay (Jancy Slugger?!) held in a loose chuck turned by hand, which turned out rather well and is now NOT LEAKING! with a 10mm o ring in there.

  2. Hi,
    Couple of comments -
    - This section is normally used for the IT tech side of how to do stuff on the forum, so a moderator will probably move this into the Supersport or tech sections.
    - When using ‘O’ rings to control oil or fuel, especially in high temp areas, I would use Viton seals (or at least EPDM) as they are a lot less affected by chemical and heat swell / degradation.
I could be wrong but the one in the pic looks more like NBR, NRL or SBR.
You will probably be fine but next time it’s apart, maybe check the rubber grade.

  3. Hello, thanks for that, didn’t know I was in the wrong bit... I’m new on here. The o ring is a fuel line one which I’d assumed would be ok, I shall be watching it closely now!
    Thanks for your comments
