So went to look at the 1098 and the 848 today as a possible upgrade, both look very nice. Arranging a test ride on both bikes next week. One question. Am I right in thinking the evo isn't really worth the extra £ over the normal 848 for road use.
No imho. The Evo has better brakes, bit more top end, steering damper (most importantly the logs to fit a better one) and if later ones some have QS and some other toys. Worth the extra unless what you buy is all upgraded
Not that it's worth buying a bike off the back of on it's own, but the reviews at the time said the Evo was noticeably better than the original 848 model. They reckoned it was more raw, more free-revving, more midrange, more top end. And like Bradders said, better brakes, steering damper etc too. All fairly small increases / improvements on their own, but adding up to a better overall bike. That's what the word in the press was anyway, but it was pretty much the same feedback across all the tests. I've only ridden an Evo engined 848 so can't offer my own experience.
I have owned both and quite frankly the brakes are worth the extra money alone,or u can go a step further and get the se and get everything u need in a sportsbike
Why does everyone compare 848 to 1098. If u want the bike with enough power for the road and 99% of riders get the 848 and if u want a bike with mental power for shits and giggles why not go all the way and get the 1198
I had 1098S and had a couple of long test rides on 848 Evo... in my opinion 848 is more than enough for the road. I bought 1098S because I wanted a 'proper' Ducati superbike - full Ohlins, dry clutch, forged Marchesinis etc... but I should have chosen 848. Never tried 'old' 848 so can't really comment whether Evo is worth extra money.
I wasn't comparing them but as they look almost identical the only way to choose witch is for you is to ride both. I'm not considering the 1198 because if people say the 848 is enough for road and the 1098 is too much then unless you plan on regular track days I can't see the point in the 1198 on the road. That's just my opinion on the 1198 tho, don't want to upset any 1198 road rider
do any 848 evo models come with quick shifter and traction control? If not can they be fitted? Bear with me on the novice questions, i don't know a lot about ducati bikes. But that is why I signed up on here
Yep the last SE editions do. Get along to a dealer (whos yourlocal one?) and try one out. Ignore the 1098 is too much brigade, the throttle goes both ways and of course and 848 is more than enough but if you like lazy delivery of power, leave itin 4th all day type stuff the bigger motor may suit you more. Its just more scary if you hammer the right had as the front is vey light...whereas the 848 craves to be hammered and mostly patters when aggressive on the throttle (except 1st) and doesnt try and flip
The corse se has traction control, quick shifter, shiny ohlins rear shock and a top box all for a few pence more
