848 for the taller rider?

  1. Hi all,

first post as a prospective ducati rider having had yammies (mainly crossers) for over 6 years! I'm wanting a 848 badly, and am fortunate enough to have the money ready. I've yet to have a sit/ride on one but am wondering how the ride position is for taller riders? I'm 6'3" and struggle to get my knees under an R6, so will I have mega dramas with an 848? I'm currently abroad and can't get to a dealer for another couple of weeks, and am trying to hold off putting a deposit down for something j may not be able to ride easily.
Also, is there a thread with a 'must read' for second hand 848's?

    many thanks.

  2. I think the seat height on the 848 is higher than the R6. I'm a short arse and I could sit on the R6 without it being lowered, but I had to lower the 848 EC SE by a couple of inches so I could sit on it comfortably at lights/junctions etc.

  3. Well mine is for sale and the best evo about :upyeah:

I am short but need lower pegs as I'm stumpy and so kinda have the same issue, ie arse to heel distance. I have fitted corse style ones which rotate so if I'm on a longer ride I swing them lower, they sit below the std ones, then for faster or track days I lift the legs higher for ground clearance. Cranker and a few others I know are you size and they manage on similar

  4. Just looked at the respective seat height specs. The R6 is allegedly 850mm whilst the 848 is 830mm.

All I can say is that the R6 seat must be narrower if I could reach the floor.

  5. I can touch far easier on an R6 than an 848. Can only be its narrower at the seat

  6. Yeah it must be that

  7. I'm 6'3" too and have no real problems with my 848. The CBR600 I had before though was a different kettle of fish, I struggled with more than 45 minutes before leg cramps started :(

  8. This may well be the solution I go for then, my legs are mega cramped on an r6 so having the pegs a little lower would do wonders for riding for longer.

Thanks all for the replies, anyone got any advice for things to look for in second hand 848s?

bradders, have you got an eBay link or classifieds? Ill have a gander at what you're selling but no promises!

  9. Sure have a deal on the table from dealer but bit away from where it needs to be but found bike so have reduced for 8995 without the track kit on ebay, its in classified here for 9500 with track bodywork but did I say I've found a bike... Lol

Ducati 848 Evo with everything! Reduced | eBay

  10. It's a lovely bike but a little out of my price range, and I'm way too inexperienced to be going anywhere near track stuff, although I'm hoping to change that in the next few years.

Time vs money vs girlfriend. I'm no mathematician but there's a variable in there that nullifies the whole equation....

  11. i'm 6ft 2 and fine.

  12. I am 6ft 4" and came from a Triumph Daytona, ZXR750 and a Gsxr 1000. The 1098 is the best for legroom in my opinion, same as the 848 I believe?. I just got a superpole seat for it which I believe lifts the seat height an inch or so but not fitted it yet. There are a few of us "longshanks" on here with the 848/1098/1198. I did sit on a fireblade at one point and it felt like a mini moto for me. I would take a good long test ride first though before you part with your cash.

  13. i'm north of 6ft 4 and luv the bike. The oem seat i hated because of constantly sliding forward which ached my arms but a DP or ideally a Superpole seat and it's cushdy.

I tour mine no problems too and have done 500 miles in a day. On a motorway you can get uncomfortable if doing 100's of miles but your never more than 100 miles from a tank fill up anyway so a chance to stretch.

Will be touring it again for 10 days in Spain from 1st Sept, can't wait.

  14. I'm 6ft4 and when I first bought my 1098 I found getting my foot on the brake pedal a bit of struggle because being so tall means your legs are more hunched up giving you a steeper foot angle which isn't exactly ideal when you need to anchor up. I bought some rotating adjustable foot pegs and a brake lever with an adjustable foot piece of ebay for about £50-60 which lower the angle making riding much more comfortable and safer!.

  15. So as you see Cazza, we are all 6ft 4" on here, well apart from el toro...............

  18. If you do struggle a suggestion might be the Superpole seat, tall guys seem to like it, its taller and pushes you forward giving more leg room. I had one and hated it coz I'm a short arse.

  19. I think you will be fine mate I'm 6'2 and think its much more comfortable on the legs than my gsxr or r1

  20. Is the right answer
