Hi I've recently starting to loose confidence in my front end grip. Getting a feeling as though the front tyre is low in pressure but it's perfect. Bike is now 4.5 years old with 8k, have been thinking maybe it's time for a suspension refresh. Has anyone else experienced this prob on a similar age/ mileage steed?
My old 848 had a sublime front end but it wasn't quite as old as your one. I know I ran Pirelli Supercorsa's almost exclusively until I 'went cheap' once and fit some dunlops. Lost all confidence in the front after losing the front on the brakes in straight lines twice. Luckily I saved both but I'd say tyres rather than suspension. You can normally tell knackered suspension pretty easy.
Running Pirelli Diablo Rosso corsas, running 35 psi at front. Tyres are on for about a year and a half now, have covered around 1.5k on them.
Yeah will give it a go. Planning of going supercorsas next time anyway. Trying also to figure out if some of it is in my head also as I have been riding an 1199 regularly also.
I had my suspension on mine set up by JHS and they said that the Ducati 848 is super hard on the front tyre and can often ruin the tread shape in the same time as a rear tyre lasts. I started to get real vagueness in the first part of turn in which freaks u out but I put a new set of Dunlop sport smart 2's on and got the basic set up done and it was perfect after
Yeah I know that feeling well, are they supercorsa tyres? Feel for a lip in the tread, like a raised edge. Mine was nothing to do with tyre pressures as I am meticulous
I had the same lack of confidence on my 2nd 848 front end, spent time on suspension but couldn't obtain the feel I felt was right, particularly on track. Front tyre had plenty of tread left but eventually replaced both tyres with Pilot Pure 2CT put suspension back to standard and bike felt as it should, so my conclusion is that the front tyre wear was the cause and that any new tyres would have made the difference! 1.5K miles does seem a low mileage but if you've been running at 35 psi wear could be the problem? Always ran at 32F 34R but book says 30.5 - 33.3 psi F 32 - 35 R
my pirelli scorpion 2 pressures in their book are 36/38... I thought that high but i'm sticking with it. I've reset trip 1 on fitting as I want to see exactly what I get out of them.
