848 gear shift set up issue

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by riskypicker, Aug 19, 2013.

  1. Until responding to a post on here claiming not to suffer false neutrals, i never have. Until this weekend.

Going into tight bends, going down from third to second the bike popped into neutral, with the light on the dash, 4 times in one ride. Same 2 bends once on the way out and again on the way back.

Not nice entering sharp bends and going into neutral.

Bike has a slipper clutch fitted (before i got it and ive never checked the box to see which make). Also has Rizoma rearsets which i didnt fit either. Rizoma's took a lot of setting up for my riding position and boots plus had a shift rod fall off on the first ride. Another story.

So looking at them again today to see if thats the reason for imprecise gear changes.

The gear box spline has a nice painted line across it. The lever clamping onto the spline has no markings. The split in the clamp doesnt line up with the painted line on the spline. Should it?

Or can anyone tell me what that line should er, line up with?

    Cheers

  2. Throw away the rizoma stuff and get a reverse shift

  3. Still not going to help ensure I get the pedal and spline lined up though.

  4. A GP/Reverse shift just fit directly on to the shaft, you cant go wrong. Even a Multi own could manage it lol

  5. Sorry, maybe i havent been clear.

The Rizoma uses the standard gearchange assembly that goes on the shaft.

Its just that with so many teeth on the shaft im not sure if the previous owner took that part off and put it back on the same teeth it came from the factory on.

Im trying to work out where the painted line on the shaft goes in relation to the original gearchange assembly.
