Hi all. My 848 has just surfaced from its winter slumber and after a battery charge it started ok but tick over was very erratic. Taking it for a spin it would stall easily and pull intermittently….guessing it’s running on one cylinder then both at will. Any ideas please? When put away for hibernation it was running perfectly.
Put away in November last year. Tank had E10 about half full. Topped up today again with E10 but issue is still there.
Do you still have the OE plastic tank ? It's notorious for having an adverse reaction to E10. As a first stab, I’d drain the E10 and put some super unleaded in to see if it makes a difference. Andy
I only use Esso premium as it supposed to have zero ethanol (in most garages) E10 makes the tank swell..
E10 isn't the issue in terms of running, but as others say it will swell the tank and it's shelf life when left is something liek 1/3rd less than even E5. So even with 5ltr of bad fuel in there you won't be giving the bike the best chance for running properly. I'd start with clean fresh E5, if this doesn't sort it I'd look at damp in the coil sticks, from sitting over winter. If that doesn't sort it I'd be looking at things like perished vacuum hoses etc around the throttle bodies. Failing all that, it's time to get it plugged in and perform a Throttle TPS reset to see if that helps the stalling etc.
I had the same thing with mine after the winter slumber, idle would be all over the place and eventually stall. diluting half a tank with premium e5 improved it but it was still there on cold starts. Once I ran the tank down to the fuel light coming on and then filling with premium e5 it was all back to normal.
