  1. Hi,

Do I need a special spanner or will a large suitable socket suffice?

  2. 46mm wheel side (176Nm)and 41mm sprocket side (41Nm) I think that’s what you’re asking for? I use sockets and a Torque Wrench.:upyeah:

  3. That's the very ticket Chum; ta!
That's a high T setting, are you sure on those?

  4. Yes bud. It’s also stamped on the wheel and there are some threads on here discussing it :upyeah:

  5. Yoodaman.

  6. seems my desire to spruce up the back end is going to cost me before I even buy the effing bling! I've just bought a paddock stand, two sockets and it looks like an impact wrench is on the cards as I have a delicate back; hohumm. SWMBO will no doubt nip-ma-heid!

  7. Got ma sockets. Now, will my little cirlip pliers cope with the two biggies on the back or do I need to buy a heavy duty set? I've posted a question about cleaning all the removables on another thread so it looks like the Dremel and some ACF50 to spruce em up. I will post piccies for the bored!

  8. So off the big nuts came, nae bother, with a 600mm wrench, If they were done up to spec then I'm the pope.

Anyhoo, took em off, soaked them in ACF 50, gave them a wee birl on the wire wheel, polished them with Wurth Metal Polish (smells like Brasso) and up they came. There is still a bit of corrosion pitting but its an interim exercise till I buy some anodised parts for the winter maintenance programme. Herewith, as promised, some piccies!

Whilst we are at it..is there a secret squirrel method for getting off the sprocket plate retainer nuts? I got one off by using a torx head through the wheel from the opposite side but the others don't want to come off, they've loosened but are now spinning free.

    Advice please peeps!

  9. In order to remove the 5 cush drive retaining nuts you need to hold the cush drives. Each nut is attached to an individual cush drive which has an allen recess in the back of it. Sometimes these can be held by using an allen wrench inserted from the right hand side (through the wheel) - if you can't get at them then the 41mm nut needs to come off and the whole assembly slides off so you can do it on the bench.

  10. yes, saw that, some size of allen key! Is that all that is required? Another bloody tool to buy...harrumph!

  11. Put Allen key in vice. Drop Cush drive onto it. Zap the nut. Done.

  12. Get a set of these

  13. Done. £9. Delivery on Monday.

  14. All done, a wee bit better till the bling is purchased.

On the subject of Torque as discussed above. I used the settings as advised and th rear wheel would not turn. readjusted to 150nm and it still would not turn. Ive set it at 100 and it turns nicely. Do we forsee any issues? I did notice, as again mentioned above, that they spun off real easy....a queer one to be sure!

  15. That doesn’t sound right.
Do you mean the wheel or the sprocket side?
Have you missed out a spacer or something?
I would advise taking it apart and checking as tightening it to the correct value should not make the wheel not turn.
