Got an 848 evo 2011 it starts fine when cold or on short runs but on a few long runs it turns ove but won't fire and takes a good few times to fire anyone got any ideas?
I seem to remember that lambda sensors have a very low current, so are extra sensitive to having a good clean connector. Once you've located it, cleaning up the connection might well do the trick. Apparently, a lot of perfectly good sensors get changed unnecessarily.
Mine was a warranty job I'm afraid so I have no idea of cost. No reason for it to be done by a main dealer though which should save a bit. Also worth checking the spark plugs. If it's been over fuelling because of a sensor problem they may need a clean/replacing. Good luck and let us know how you get on
I now remember where I got this from. My wife had a Peugot 104 several years ago and a problem was diagnosed to the lambda sensor, which was replaced at great expense. The cure was only temporary though, which is when I found out about the low current making a good connection essential. I cleaned up the connector and it was cured.
It's a process of elimination where the cost increases due to the cause. What spark plugs are you running? If Iridium, try increasing the gap. Change back to stock. As above give your connectors a good clean. The bike has an Idle Control Valve that can become gummed up. Flushing through with carb cleaner can help. Unfortunately it is fixed to the throttle bodies so it is a tank and airbox off job. If you need some Lamdas to borrow I have some you can test with.
Took it to nelly at corner speed he swapped the two relays which are situated right near the water pump I believe and can become temperamental due to to much heat ,been ok since but not used it much to be honest I'll keep you posted Cheers
Still doing it!! Went out last night started fine first off, met mates after a five min ride went to start and nearly fired then must have took ten to a dozen goes so it isn't the relays I had swapped, stunk of petrol while tryin to fire up any guesses on my next step?
It sounds identical to my issue with the lambda. I think the plugs were changed at the same time so that may help as well
quite often you can just disconnect stuff to isolate as the ecu will have base values if components go open circuit but it will just act on information regardless if faulty or not.
