899 899/1199 Hybrid.

  1. I am converting an 899 to one with an 1199 swingarm and a BST 6inch rear rim.
Question: what tyres do you suggest/know will work best?
At the moment ImI looking at a 190/55 rear and 120/70 front from Metzeler Sportec M3's.
Not after super sticky hoops as have no intention of tracking the hybrid.
I read elsewhere that the TC will be comprised and to run it backed off due to 'incorrect' rear tyre size fitted.
    Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Ta.
There will be pictures of bike & bins in December.

  2. Would not a 200 rear cause TC issues?

  3. Have the tc unit reflashed

  4. I have a 190/55 rear on the stock 899 rim. No real issues as far as I’m concerned.

  5. Cheers for that. What tyres are you using?

  6. On the higher TC settings even a different make of the same profile (they are never actually the same) tyre will upset the system on slippery surfaces. If you’re not on track, not really riding quickly if it is slippery, and have it set on 1 or 2 in the dry, I doubt you’ll ever notice.

It is a lot of effort to go through for a setup that is actually a bigger pain to live with though.

  7. Jolley ta for that. It's what I've read from other people regular the TC. If the mod works without too many issues I can live with it. Not planning on doing more than a few thousand miles a year on it.

  9. why not just buy an 1199?

  10. The 899 turns better than an 1199 due to the shorter wheelbase; are you sure that's a good idea?? (I'm assuming the extra wheel base of the 1199 comes from a longer swingarm here, I think the head angle is the same on the 899 as the current bikes?)

  11. An 1199 would seem more sensible and probably cheaper, but where's the fun in that!? If it goes pear shaped then I can sell the sssa and BST and move on. I just fancied something a bit different.

  12. I also realise my 899 will look to all intense purposes like a base 1199 from twenty paces.
In the end I’m just a shallow & fickle droido_O

  13. IMHO, while I admire the ‘coz I can’ approach, the effort and cost involved would outweigh the benefits especially when people will just think it’s an 1199 anyway :)

  14. Bradders I can’t disagree with you but I’m lucky enough to be able to do it due to sourcing 2nd hand sssa & wheel and other bits & bobs. Talked to Andy800 of this parish and the helpful chaps at Nottingham Ducati who did a conversation. By the end of November I’ll know one way or the other if I’m an idiot:p

  15. Often thought an 1199 engine in the 899 frame/swinger config might be fun...Especially on corner exit....:astonished:

  16. It’s been done.

  17. Reading a. It if that, the 1199r motor drops straight in with std 899 swingarm!

That would be worth doing ;)

  18. It would definitely be good at getting the acceleration down and I do love the look of the single sided swing arm but you'd be waiting an extra second or two to get the bike turned before you could get the power down. I really notice how much I have to spin the back wheel to hook the 1199 around as fast as some other bikes. All that said I'd still do it for sh*ts and g*ggles so top work @Biot :)

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  19. If it all works out and I don’t end up in a hedge somewhere I’m more than happy for peeps to have a spin(sic) on it then tell me I’m, ‘a silly boy Pike’.
