899 899 Panigale Preload Front?

  1. Hi all.
Know this is in wrong section but hoping of more help sooner

Anyone know why the front preloads are said to be wrong in the book?

it says fully open as in clockwise but some internet pages says fully open is out or anti clockwise then adjust from there?

I’m trying to find comfort road as front felt a little wondering or fluctuating feel if that makes sense like the tyre is moving.

    all pressures are good etc

    many thanks.

  2. Wind all the way out and four back in or two for comfort

  4. When I got my 899, I set the suspension up based on the steps in the manual as a starting point. It seemed to make sense when you follow their terminology and the hard/soft directions on the adjusters, although I had to read each setting's instructions a few times to make sure I was turning adjusters the right way in each instance.

  5. Good Luck with this! After riding my buddy's 899/959 I scrubbed the Panigale models from my bucket list. But.... Go straight to MCT, do not pass Go, do not collect £200, (Monopoly reference!) What my feelings told me was front end lack of suppleness, MCT showed to be the rear shock lack of movement ( through poor design) was affecting the front. £500 or so later, the bike was transformed, and I too could join the Panigale club!

  6. Wind out as in anti clockwise.....?
    Not clockwise as per book?

  7. Hi thanks for reply

I found it easy to do but it says open is clockwise which doesn’t make sense with regards to thinking like a tap opening.....
Also winding all into clockwise “open” is H which I’m sure is High compression which means springs already compressed a lot so not much travel so harder..... Soooooo winding out 2 for comfort and 4 normal seems then opposite way round?

  8. The manual makes no sense at all - translation is wrong.

Wind it all the way out (anti-clockwise!)

Stock road setting is 2 turns (8 clicks) in (clockwise)

Stock performance setting is 6 turns (24 clicks) in

  9. Or shock horror... you could always measure the preload ie sag for you your weight your riding conditions...you know take all the guestinate out of the equation?

  10. I spoke to one garage suspension specialist and they said it’s higher and lower which then the book makes sense as lower more wound out from clockwise for track

  11. I have been fiddling with suspension settings for track most of my life and thinking I was making great progress, my last attempt was the 1199 so I had springs installed front and back for my weight re installed the suspension and away I went with my suspension tuning. I did a track day on it about 7 weeks ago and after noticing bad tyre wear I went to the suspension guy at the track (a Superbike racer) he was shocked at my settings (someone must have broken into my house and changed them) put his in and the bike has been transformed.
I have a ZX10R 2017 that I had at the track 2 weeks ago had the same guy fiddle with that with the same positive outcome, if you want a good result get someone who knows what to do and not just the local garage to do it.

Sorry about the long winded story.

  12. No that’s cool.....
There a couple places charge around £40 and they have track bikes so must know what doing but I guess it’s how want it to feel as should really be at softer end of bike setting for the crappy roads we have however if that doesn’t fee right then won’t be confidence inspiring. I don’t k ow what I’m looking for really unless they setup based on what riding doing

I spoke to Ducati lincoln about front preload and said book is correct contrary to what people say as it is almost like high and lower adjuster for big piston forks so I’ve got mine on standard settings with front preload a extra half turn out and rear compression 1/4 turn to soft extra
