899 899 What Tank Bag?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Jack Shit, Oct 24, 2016.

  1. Never used a tank bag before but thinking of buying one for a trip next year. Any recommendations for the panigale?

  2. They'll all scratch it.

I used a kriega one, but vinyl wrapped my tank otherwise no doubt it would have murdered it.

  6. SW Motech Blaze panniers.

Or if you want a tank bag, the Bagster system.

By the way was it you that wanted to go to Jerez MotoGP next year?

  7. Yes Sam it was. Messaged you before regarding the wonders of southern Spain. I have a place down there.

  8. I have a large Givi waterproofbag i stick on theback with bungees and some non slip matting underneath thebag. The holes either side of the tail unit are perfect for it. Tested it out at 3 figures on a very windy m11 at the weekend and seemed to work a treat.

  9. Yes looked at those waterproof bags. Can be had quite cheap. Sling it on the back and secure through the ducting holes. Like it.

  10. Anything you stick on the bodywork has a good chance of scratching this soft red paint, for me, its a Ventura rack any day

  11. That's where the girl goes.

  12. Ahh..I automatically assume that everyone rides solo, would hate to ride this two-up!!

  13. I've got a new Oxford one you can have for £35. Bought it, never used it. It cost £109! It's on eBay now:

  14. I'm doing Mugello to Montmello next year and had the same predicament myself. The only systems that I can see that won't mark paintwork and hold everything off are the Ventura and SW Motech options.

I'm opting SW Motech Blaze panniers, as its 20 litres either side so I can throw my leg other and come with liners so just grab the contents and go.

  15. as EL TORO said the kreiga pillion seat bags are great bits of kit. I have the US20 with the panigale fitting kit and its amazing.
If your bothered about scratching though and dont want to risk it try there backpack.
The kreiga backpacks distribute the weight well and are very well made. They are designed to be able to get on and off easy with a jacket on and have easy access pockets for use with gloves on

  16. Great pieces of kit, but the chest buckle on mine scratched the tank of my 1299 between the top of my tank pad and filler cap. Only light scratches, but I know they are there!

  17. not so good mate. Any chance you could polish them out?

  18. You can improve tank bags and luggage by gluing bits of neoprene wetsuit to them. You can find that stuff at any scuba store. That puts an end to scratching. Also handy to but bits under bungees where they are in contact with bodywork.

  19. Possibly. It has stopped me from using the bag though. If I were going on a trip where I needed it I might get hold of a patch of protective film to put on the tank there for the trip.

  20. You couldn't do that with the clip/buckle that holds the two arm straps together across your chest. Also, as a general comment, bike specific luggage should already be manufactured not to scratch it.
