Hi, I finally found the remaining pieces to consider my cafe racer project (I'm tempted to do a build report even if I have never tried either of these two things!!) Before strip down begins: What are the recommendations for engine upgrades? The engine will be split to vapour blast..so I'll be in a position to mod as I wish. The project is however on a budget and it's a cafe racer in the original spirit of the term, with all work done by me preferably. I was going to at a minimum port the valves, fit a lightened flywheel, clutch and a PCIII. Any other recommendations please? Thanks! Grant Edit: and a LITHIUM battery! - (but with the necessary reg/rect)..calm down..calm down..
A set of hi-comp pistons will give up more than a gas flow. ST2 cams work well also if you can find any.
You know what they say - “speed costs money, how fast can you afford to go?” For low cost per noticeable effect without noticeable detriment to reliability mods, I would look at - Lightened flywheel, open airbox, open pipes, ECU map.
Hi Nelly, thanks for the reply. It's mainly a budget thing regarding hi-comps, porting is in essence free. For the cams, I did look at the ST2, but from what I read the ie cams are already a halfway house between the carb and the ST2, so I felt the gains would be minimal. Cheers! Grant
Hi Nelly, I don't suppose you know if ST2 liners will fit in the ie barrels do you? - Turns out the hi-comps are cheaper than I expected so I'm thinking of going +2: 94mm same as ST2 liners Thanks for your time. Grant
I knew I should have bought that scrap ST2 motor on the bay last week, missed it by 25 quid! perfect donor.
There’s no liners. They have enough meat to rebore though. My SS is running 944 but you can go 966 but that leaves the cylinders a bit thin.
