After 2 years off the road my 96 Superlight is now back up and running with a replacement Monster engine. Hoping to actually get some use out of it next year when I get the chance and one thing (amongst quite a few) that needs attention is, I think, the rear shock. I've noticed sometimes a small ring on the rod leading me to think the seal is maybe failing - it is 20 years old after all. The suspension is something that is probably a bit 'tired' so, along with a refresh of the front I think addressing the other end is also a wise move as sometimes it jusst doesn't feel that well 'planted'. What are the options ? I've read that the later ie model shocks for but raise the rear a little - true ? Not sure how easy getting hold of a good s/h one would be though. Are there any other alternatives that fit, or is a rebuild worthwhile for these - think they came with a Showa ? Cheers, Andy
You could rebuild it, costs about 100 quid. Its a Showa usually. It does benefit from a new rear, I got a Maxton for mine, awesome. Also had the fork internals by Maxton. Hagon, Penske, Ohlins.....loads options
Cant really help you as Ive not had it done. Ebay lists some companies that do it. Mate had one done for a different bike and it was a good job. Dont know who he used though, could find out....
Had my rear Showa rebuilt by Maxton - better damping, but biggest improvement was them fitting a spring more appropriate to my weight. IIRC, standard spring is too hard. Sent from my P01M using Tapatalk
While you are at it, get an adjustable ride height or get it made to 900ssie spec which is about 15mm longer. It quickens up the steering
ducati fit the same spring on the monoposto models as on the biposto models so yes they are way to stiff
do believe that Nobbi1977 did have a rather nice aftermarket shock that was coming up for sale from his ss ie think it was a wilbers ? see if you can pm him see if he still has it
