Good Day gents, please may I ask for some assistance... Trying to reassemble the front wheel speedo drive adapter plate to the drive. It appears that the tangs on the steel adapter are too high, +- 2/3 mm, thus preventing the speedo drive from sitting flush on the bearing. The adapter plate I bought is Ducati OEM 88110221a. Is the adapter plate possibly the wrong one??? When I purchased the bike the speedo wasn't working, so when I disassembled it there was no drive plate Thanks K
There are two versions of the carbed SS wheel.......they changed at around 1994 - 1995.......they have different speedo drives. Neither speedo drives are interchangeable....... The wheel difference is easy to spot.........the later wheel has a thinner brake disc locating casting (approx 4mm max) and the earlier wheel is about 6mm........ Your wheel looks like the later one. So if you leave that drive plate out, does the seal and the speedo drive that you have all fit properly? If so, I reckon the drive plate is wrong as you suggest.
Thanks Arquebus! Well, ripped it all apart this afternoon, cleaned and inspected, All looked OK. There should be NO oring at the bottom of the speedo drive, only a steel drive plate. I assembled all without the ORING, and all seems to fit and work correctly. When the bike was purchased the speedo didn't work, no drive plate inside wheel drive, possibly the previous owner DICKED around with it.:Arghh: Definitely had me going there for a while:Arghh: Many thanks to all for the advice and info, as always much appreciated.
Desperately trying to finish my rebuild, but am mostly tinkering around with the small BS stuff now, Its going to drive me to drink moonshine...:Banghead:
