Hi, Bikes ( 94 900SS )been running rough at low speeds/revs so had a look at the pilot screws last night. Does anybody know what we should have in there and in what order? Obviously the brass screw jet and spring. What about washers and orings?? I took one side out and it has a soft washer behind the spring. Thats all. took the other side out, no soft washer but left in what looked like a metal washer. I say looked like because ive been a muppet and dropped it as i put my finger on it. ( Think its dropped into the H cylinder cooling fins. ) Can these parts be ordered anywhere?? I susspect the prev owner has messed about with them? Thanks for any advise you can give, Bill
can get all the bits here :- Allens Performance Mikuni & Keihin Carbs - if you follow the branch for Mikunis I think there is an exploded diagram as well. You should have 4 parts when you remove your idle mixture screw - the screw, the spring, a plain washer and an 'O' ring. Both last parts can get stuck in the body when you remove the screw but as you say can often be missing from last time they were removed. This is similar to show order of assy : -
Chris, Thanks for that. Yep someones been in there before me and got it all messed up!! On the Allens website, do you know what carb type i need to look at?? I cant seem to find the Duc SS carbs. Might phone them later. By the way is 12 the metal washer?? Cheers, Billy
Thanks for that Neil - O.E.M. Ducati parts are always preferable obviously even if slightly more expensive. The way they fluctuate with their availability for older models and how they sometimes charge extortionate prices for small parts makes me often forget to check them first. Billy - they are Mikuni BST38 carbs and yes the part number 12 is the steel washer.
All as the others have said............and have a real good look for the O ring stuck on its seat up the inside of the hole............and don't try to puggle it out with a hooked paperclip or anything metal, otherwise you will bugger the carb altogether. The same carbs are found on some Yamaha models (XTZ750 and I think the TDMs).....its the one you will find on Allens website (or it was there at some time).
Nelly, Cheers, what website should I be looking at?? Cant find it myself, have you got the link Thanks, Bill
The carb bodies may be the same on the TDM but the screws have a different profile. The differing dimensions are all larger though, so they can be turned down to match.
tdm, trx, 850, yamaha, carb, tuning Scroll to the top to the page title and the Yamaha models; then down a bit to extended pilot screws. No option for a difference between TDM and XTZ.
When I drilled out one of mine because it was corroded in place, I got a TDM one from the local scrappers. It wasn't the same as the SS one but I was able to get it to match. Much simpler to get oem from Nelly.
EXUP 1000 carbs are the same internals, I bought a set for the parts. The body's are no good, and the bowls are the non vented variety but the rest should fit.
