Just putting a few things back together. The rear Caliper does not seem to have an o-ring to seal the 2 halves - is this correct, I am sure it must be but just wanted a confirmation, Shimming engine. I believe the output shaft end float should be 0.05 - 0.15. I am right on 0.15 and don't seem to be able to find shims to get it a bit tighter (I would have liked somewhere in the middle). Again just a confirmation that there is nothing I can do and have to live with this on the outer tolerance - or is there some other trick? Cheers Gaz
The gearbox output shaft washer on the sprocket side, come in 0.7, 0 8, 0.9, 1.0 and 1.2mm. You need to use a combination to achieve the results you want. I don't remember a seal in the 2 halves of the caliper. I've rebuilt mine before.
Stein Dinse is your friend Extremely helpful when checking parts. As per below for 1994 to 1997 900SS, no seal between caliper halves
Desmo, Thanks for confirmation, I did look at the diagram but it did not seem right as the front calipers had an o-ring. Regarding end float. I have a 1mm shim in giving a 0.15 end float. Again I saw the sizes you quoted but they don't seem that user friendly for achieving various combinations. 1.2 will give preload as will 2 0.7. Ok I will have to live with 0.15. unless I "wet & dry" a 1.2 down to 1.1/1.05. Many thanks Cheers Gaz
Regarding o ring in rear caliper. Having looked again (and I know the diagram does not show it) I have found an o ring in another box of rear brake stuff. The groove seems to be machined half in one side half in the other so may be that's why it did not look like it had one. O rings size approx 6.5 I.d x 1.5 section. Groove depth is approx 0.65 x 2 giving about 13% compression so it sounds about ok. Cheers Gaz
Trying to assemble cylinders and heads on weekend. Torque 3 stage 15, 30, 39 Nm (Haynes) for new type studs which I have replaces the old brittle silver ones. So Iam going to install case/cylinder base gasket or spacer as I think it's correctly called 3 bond each side. No gasket on cylinder/head but 3 bond - is the right? Got a dental flush syringe off ebay to apply 3 bond (did not want it smeered all over the place). I think that little bit should be enough. Cheers Gaz
First any comments welcome especially about 3 bond on cylinder/head joint. Second run into problem with torque tool. Using adaptor from 3/8 to 1/2 and small extension bar. Problem the square drives on adaptors are not lined up and can't get torque tool 90 degree to torque wrench which does not have a ratchet head. Cheers Gaz
Hejira858, You seem to have quoted a post but can't see a reply. Anyway, I got some adaptor and extension from machine mart where both male and female drives were inline. I also could have recalculated a lesser torque value based on the increased length. terex.com https://www.terex.com › docsPDF techtip_53.pdf - Tech Tips Cheers Gaz
I thought is was its what i did on all my 350lc cases but i didn't treat them with anything just left them, ive just got a 94 900ss and plan do do the same, at least no flaking paint
Gaz, On my screen, looks like my answer is directly below your question ("click to expand"?). Anyway, only said no 3 bond on head joint - spigot on barrel should form gas-tight seal with rebate in head when nipped down. Also, got ratchet torque wrench if you need it - only up the road.
Each to their own but I've never liked the thought of a diy paint job on casings, probably because I don't trust myself to do a good job. Cheers Gaz
Sorry your right should have expanded. I've done it - thanks for offer of torque wrench though. Cheers Gaz
Just putting these on and there seems to be a difference. Stein ducati call up a new number and the picture on their Web site shows them shorter. Has the long one been superseded anyone know. Cheers Gaz.
Just a quick reminder - does anyone know about the previous post any comment welcome. Head bearings - while looking at head bearing I found a cover which I thought would be a good idea for the bottom head bearing to keep any water and dirt out. So I got one and fitted under bottom of inner race on the head stem. I have come to install the top & btm yokes and it does not feel right. tightening nut so there is no play leaves the the yoke quite stiff to turn. I think the outer race which is pressing on the cover to seal must be pressing quite hard, it just feels too stiff to turn. Possible would be easier when bars are on but I am unsure. Anyone fitted similar - comments anyone. Cheers Gaz
