900SS efi power commander maps

  1. Hey all,

I've finally gotten myself a power commander III USB and K&N air filter for my bike.
I've opened up the airbox with new K&N airfilter and installed the PC myself.

Still running stock pipes for now.

I'm curious which map to put on the PC, the free ones off dynojet seem to have one for

Open airbox with K&N with remus or forza exhausts,
    zero map
    all stock map

However not one for open K&N airbox but stock exhausts, at the moment i've put on the open airbox and remus exhausts map (even though I'm running stock exhausts).
I'm assuming this isn't going to hurt my bike? Might be running too rich? (not as bad as too lean right?) I'd dont see any popping or issues riding.

Anyone have any maps or know where to get any maps for my build? (without spending tons on custom map for now...)

Also I've seen there is a new software add on, accelerator fuel pump, anyone tried this on 900ss? what settings are you using?

    Thanks,

  2. Any old map will do seeing as you are not getting it mapped, which is what needs doing in all honesty. Leave it off until you have the pennies available to do it correctly is the correct advice. A bit of patience and you will get there :upyeah:

  3. running a free map should not be wearing the engine till that happens right? I can safely ride with open airbox k&n and even if i get slip ons with those on a free map, better than without the Power commander? I'll just be loosing out on the power slightly correct?

  4. The fuelling will change with the mods you are planning, though whether to a detrimental level can only be assessed by reading the mixture right through the rev range. I am sure other will be along to say what the mods will do more accurtely, but the filter and can map should in effect add more fuel right across the range, so this would seem the most sensible option if you are doing the mods and using an untested map. Until it's set up correctly for all the mods you have , it will only be a "good stab in the dark" as to what the fuelling should be.

  5. Best bet as already said is to wait until you have the cans you want and get a custom set up. I have a pc on my bike and all of the free maps made it worse, even the stock set up when the bike was stock. When I rang up about it I was told that with early injection systems and particularly air cooled bikes where the temperatures vary more the free maps that they supply are very generic and may not suit individual bikes.

  6. I remember purchasing some second-hand carbon termi's and K & N filter, couldnt wait to put them on. When i did, the bike ran like a pig. So i purchased a PC3, Down-loaded one of free maps, on there website it ran fine. I did try the open airbox mod, but didnt like the extra noise.
if you do take it to a Dyno centre make sure its a custom map. Some of them just down-load one of the web. And charge you £150.

  7. DO NOT LOAD THE ACCEL PUMP GIZMO. It will cause all sorts of probs I did it on my 620 DD bike, it took an age to eliminate my symptoms and it was down to the PC Accel pump. It really is only intended for drag bikes.

But its your bike and you were asking. JMHO.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  8. ditto above advice,

wait until you get some pipes and take it into a shop with a dyno and get it set up properly, it will save you a load of grief in the interim
