  1. 7DE699EE-03FB-4330-BD6A-6F26D81267D5.jpeg My neutral light stopped working on my 1991 900ss, checked the electrical connections, found no issues, but no light, bridged the connectors and the light came on so the bulb was ok, took the switch out of the engine and the plunger felt rough in operation, turned the end of the plunger and it sprang out a few more millimetres, sprayed WD40 into it and worked it til it operated smoothly, connected it back up and operated the plunger by hand and the neutral light now works, refitted the switch and all is well (btw on others threads I’ve seen people adapting sockets to remove the switch, there’s no need you can easily get on the switch with a 13mm ring spanner working from the side of the engine, just disconnect the wires at the bullet connectors about 25cm up the cable run and pass the cable through the ring spanner), thought I’d mention it in case anyone else has this fault occur.
Left hand indicators weren’t working, that turned out to be one of the front left connectors had come off, doh!, anyway a quick fix.
I bought a new rear brake slave cylinder unnecessarily last week, what I hadn’t done was really persevere with bleeding the old one, I had tried all the tricks like reverse bleeding through the bleed nipple with a syringe, taking the calliper off it’s mount and raising it above the master cylinder, breaking the joint at the master cylinder, nothing worked!, anyway this morning I bled it the conventional way pumping the brake lever and it’s now fine, moral of that story is if at first you don’t succeed don’t give up and blame the components:), anyway all in all a good mornings work.
Finally; I’ve got a few minor dents and scuffs on my left hand silencer, the dents are small enough not to be seen if the surface finish of the can is restored, there’s also a scratch that’s been there for ages, does anyone know of a metal finisher that could achieve the original finish, sort of a matt anodised silver lightly brushed effect? (Ref photo).

  2. Hope your neutral light continues to work, the internal compression spring rusting (and then collapsing) is often the first thing that goes wrong on early switches.

  3. Thanks Chris, it seemed smooth enough once I’d worked it, but I didn’t know about the spring rusting issue, so maybe it will jam up again, at that point I’ll get a new one, thanks for the info.

  4. Lovely bike, lovely picture, gives me hope for some sunny weather!

  5. Thanks Chris, yes and to think that was just a few short months ago, hate winter!, I’ve just come out for a ride on the winter hack (CBR1000F), but it’s not great fun dodging mud & diesel :( as you say roll on summer.

The mirrors were fitted by the previous owner and work well, he gave me the original mirrors with the bike but as you know they are hopeless, I’ll have a look tomorrow to see if there is a brand name on the ones fitted now and let you know (hopefully you can zoom in for a better view of the mirrors on this photo).

  8. nice one. They don't look too bad at all.
I've got a bar end on mine as well as the standard ones but its not as practical as the same one on my 748, due to the nature of the ss bars.
    just mulling over options..

  9. Had a look at the mirrors, there are no visible brand marks on them, sorry not much help there!.

  10. that's cool mate, thanks for ya effort.
I've seen a few similar advertised on eBay but not many had pics of em on the bike.
So its good to see what they look on.
    still just having musings..
tbh I might try a different style bar end, a bit bigger that the one i was using and see how I get on..
