Hi, About to strip my 1990 900ss motor, 2nd major strip (92k miles) & noticed the timing gear has excessive backlash, plenty 2nd hand on ebay but what compatability is there? Also bought some 1000 ds 20t adjustable pulleys, anyone else done this?
OK, should have asked, plenty 2nd hand on ebay from other models, can I replace these with gears from another model or are they specific to 900 motor?
I simply can't see why you think you have excessive backlash in the timing gears unless you have an engine with timing gears, of course.........in which case you are posted in the wrong section. .......if you have belts like I guess you have, then are only three things that can really make it all slack........Worn belts, worn pulley teeth or the belts are too loose........ .......or maybe the valve gaps are far too big, but then the bugger wouldn't run without you noticing something was seriously wrong. Talk / PM to MADASL if you want to know about adjustable timing pulleys....... Perhaps you can clarify what the issue is...... AL
