  1. My 748 has always been smokey since refitting the cylinder heads and rebuilding the throttle bodies. It runs fine and runs all clean when warm, but I’d like to fix it.

    It must be either;
    1 Rings worn (I didn’t replace them)
    2 valve step seals. I put the valves in and out so many times to get the correct valve clearance I could of damaged them.
    3 Throttle bodies aren’t balanced.

    To test if the throttles are balanced, could I swap them with the setup from my 916? Are they the same?
    Is there an easy way of balancing the throttles at home?

  2. If the smoke is black it is running too rich and would be a fuelling issue. If the smoke is grey/blue then it's oil be burnt. Oil smoke on start up is usually valve stem guides/seals. Worn rings don't usually cause oil smoke on start up but mostly on full throttle .

  3. Smoke is white.
    Coolant level never moves.
    People riding behind complain it stinks, makes their eyes water.
