  1. Hi guys, went out on my first day out on the 916 and on way back battery light has come on and is staying on, it did rain heavy a few times during the day, im think reg/rectifier ? ive not looked at it yet but will drop a multi meter on it and see if its charging, any other tips? its a sp3 if that makes any difference.

  2. I don't know the 916 (wish I did lovely machine) but it look like single phase, alternator, permanent magnet& combined reg rec.
I have a Guzzi that has a very similar system (but not clothed nearly as sexily)
Anyways first thing get the battery out the bike and out it on a charger until it floats (electrically not physically)
Wait for a couple of hours and measure the voltage, I think typically it should be about 12.7V
Put it back in the bike start it and measure voltage at idle, 2k & 3K, you should see summit like 13.5 at 3K (this is off the top ma heed)
If not then its time to do open circuit check on the alternator. Disconnect the yellow wires between alt and reg rec start the bike and you should see summit in region of 30-40V AC at 3K. The manual should give better guidance.
If that's Ok and all the battery connections and reg/rec to alt connections and earths are Ok then time to shell out on Shindengen me thinks

Just a general half assed quick and dirty way of doing some checks

If Denzel comes along ignore all I've said and listen to him Heees Da Maan

  3. Regulator rectifier is on its way out.

  4. Check the connector on the yellow charge cables from alternator to reg/rec (sits in the 'V' of the cylinders, behind the battery) it's possible that it's started to melt? If it has you maybe lucky and be able to salvage the reg/rec before it cooks...

  5. cheers guys will take a look
