I have just stripped the cams out of my 98 916 with 15k on it and found 6 of the opening rockers have flaked. I think I will replace all of them while I'm at it. All of the closing followers look ok. First question, are Newman still the people to go to for repairs, any ideas of price and time scale? Secondly, where do you start with setting the clearances when the repaired followers are fitted, shall I just refit the original shims and go from there or are they likely to be very different? I suppose I'll find out when I get there.
Get Newman's to resurface them. They do a great job. I had a couple done last year. Adjustment afterwards was minimal.
Newman charge £60 per rocker. Spoke to them a couple of months back. No idea of time frame. I bought some good used ones.
I had mine re-done by Newman years ago after dealing with numerous flakey rockers (including new replacements) and, combined with MBP retainers I rarely need to change any shims plus, the few I have changed were all well within service tolerances and so didn't actually 'need' changing, I just like them to be more precise.
I had a cam for a 30's single Harley done by them a few years ago - completely rebuilt a lobe back up. Took abt 6 weeks, but great service and lovely people.
