Good evening, after my 916 died last weekend, I managed to get it to a workshop today to be checked out The outcome was the generator/stator has died, only showing 3v on tickover, with 6v at 3000rpm, checked on the 2 yellow wires Any recommendations for a good place to get a replacement? According to the Ducati parts online page, they are nearly £500 for new OE Many thanks in advance View attachment 265081
try http://www.westcountrywindings.co.uk they did my 916 stator a while back. They will also replace the 2 thin yellow wires with 2 fatter yellow wires.
If you don't mind me asking, what was the cost, and the lead time for them to do the job, and get it back to you?
it just so happens i'v seen them while searching for one for the lads bike. DUCATI Superbike 916 Biposto / Senna 1997 Replacement Generator Stator | eBay
It was quite a few years ago, after yet another RR burn out. But I recall the price was surprisingly very reasonable and not excessive. I've had a lot less RR failures since, they still occur because of the heat and location. I kept a spare under my seat for yrs. Swapped it along A14 in 30mins. Then resoldered yellow wire connections when I got home. I solder the yellows rather than a connection block. My next RR on 916 will be a mosfet and I will move RR to u/s of seat.
I've used West Country Windings for many years, I've always found their service to be good and fairly fast. Steve R
