Hi, I bought a 916 today and have a few questions before I start sourcing a few original parts I need. What colour should the screen bolts be? Matt gold like the mid fairing ones? Should the rear sprocket, wheel/hub nut be zinc plated or silver anodised? Front mudguard and chain sliders are currently fitted with deep cap heads, I presume they should be dome heads? Any help would be appreciated Haydn
Is this a serious question? Its a 14 year old + bike, bits wear out/corrode/break, ride it, enjoy it. Good luck with trying to find a new set of Pirelli Dragon Corsas.
Don't worry the bike will be ridden properly but thanks for the advise anyhow. If the previous owner hadn't draped the bike in anodised bolts like he had shares in Pro-Bolt I wouldn't have to ask these questions. I want to put some parts of the bike back to original and make sure I get the right bits. Tacky bolt kits are a pet hate of mine. Cheers Haydn
My screen bolts are silver. Pogipolini make good replacement bolts for this and that. POGGIPOLINI Srl
No chance, it will be mint but used all summer. I have to hold back on the temptation to track it. I have an NC30 track bike and if I dropped the 916 I would never forgive myself, especially as i biught the NC30 for that reason.
there matt gold, you can still get them new, but expensive. same as the original fairing fasteners are expensive but look better than the aftermarket ones. I got a couple for mine Like yourself I got an NC30 track toy too ;-)
Haydn, if you want to go back to original fittings get the parts book for the part numbers and order them from Ducati, expensive but you won't get clean ones secondhand. Most of your suggestions sound correct with the fairing bolts (with the small allen key hole) all brass coloured shallow caps. The sliders have shallow domed 6 or 8mm AF hex heads and the mudguard bolts are 6 or 8mm AF hex headed screws IIRC. The rear wheel nuts are anodized
Ducati.com web site; click Dealers and Services (in white type face at top of 1st page); click Maintenance and then you will see parts catalogue year, family, model and language. Expect it to be about 6Mb. Andy
you wouldn't want to see my 916 then... it has whatever ally nuts bolts i had, fitted where ever they would fit - mix of blue/purple/gold/red and now slowly being replaced by plain ally
Whatever our individual opinions are, it's his bike (and pride and joy) and he doesn't need to justify what he's going to do with it to anyone else. Dear me.... @Haydn I have loads of original 916 parts, including the screen screws and wellnuts and every OEM steel fastener and fixing, all re-plated like new. PM me if you need any bits to return your bike to it's former glory.
I keep all my original parts. Ive even still got the bloody original pads (worn) and a broken headlight unit (replaced) and just about everything to restore my 916 back to how I got it. I too am not a fan of anodised screws/nuts/bolts. I replace mine with Nat Ti if I have too or Poggipolini ones.
Levers and clutch stuff is fine. But too much anodized alu can look tacky. The trick is getting the balance right. Ive seen some horrors. To be fair not on many ducati's though. But its all personal choice really and the person can do what they like with their bike. My taste is no better than anyone elses. Only in my mind it is but that doesnt count in reality. Only in my imagination.
I just got a Pirelli Dragon Corsa rear from Stafford show last sunday. Its not unused but still has 4mm on it. Only an 05 tyre, may horrify some but the PO had done a few laps of Mallory this year on an OW01 so its going on my bike to finish it off. Still a good tyre.
Thanks for all the replies. Steve - I would want to see your bike actually because its a 916, I really do not care what others do to their bikes thats completely down to them, I just wouldn't do it to mine. My NC30 track bike gets the "ah that'll do the trick" sort of approach, there's not many original bits left on that thing. A binned it at Cadwell last year so stripped it over winter. Its had a full overhaul, valve clearances, cabs rebuilt etc, it runs really well now. A few pics for you. Tom/Manga - I will PM you shortly. I should get the bike on Friday so will have a better idea of what I need. Tim - Thanks for the parts list, just what I needed. The overall plan is to return the bike back to original with the exception of a few bits of carbon, open clutch and the Termi's. Unfortunately I was only 9 years old when the the 916 was released so buying a new one would of been a bit difficult. I had to make do with a poster on my bedroom wall. Now i've managed to get one and its almost how i want it, but not quite. Thanks for all the help Haydn
