Hi, I have a 916 which starts and runs fine but backfires through the airbox off throttle/or very little throttle. If you take it out and get a move on it runs sweet but while sitting there at tickover it makes a spitting/hissing noise which can be felt through the airtube holes in the nose cone. Any advice welcome so i can have a tinker myself or is there anyone in the Canterbury area who knows what they are doing with these old bikes. There is a so called specialist in Dover who had my bike for 9 weeks and it came out worse than it went in with the addition of a chipped tank and unsecured £300 spyball alarm control box that broke on the way home(causing the bike to break down on the A2!) as it was flapping about. So i won't be using those monkeys again. Thanks in advance
do the usuals first...check the crankcase breather isnt clogged.......new plugs...new fuel filter.....reset throttle position sensor ....balance the throttle bodies these are the easy things...if not any use you should start looking at electrics...new battery mayb...check all terminal block connectors for corrosion, specially the regulator/rectifier...thatll keep ye going anyway for starters
Thank's for the help, am going to get it booked into ducati pro team in strood next week as it could do with a good service and belts etc. Will let you know how it goes, cheers
Take a look at the manifold rubbers, if its been left the can start to de-laminate from the ally stubs, this causes all sorts of issues at low revs high vac running, then goes away at open throttle values.
