Hi all, new to the forum but hopefully someone can help, Looking to buy my first Ducati , there's a guy selling a 1994 m600 round the corner from me, really nice looking bike that he bought but never riden, had a flat battery so I jumped it and it started but popping and bagging like crazy, didn't take much notice since its been sitting, and after a min or two it evened out but still popping from both exhausts. Then noticed a problem with indication lights on the dash. Not to worried with electrics but I've heard so many horror stories for Ducati that I could only offer him a low price that he didn't take but seemed worried that it wouldn't run right. So my question is... What could it be? How much is a bike like this really worth? Also I have a restricted license so how do these bikes run with a restriction? Any info is appreciated! Thanks
£800-£1000 tops if not really running properly but dondition is good Fairly bullet proof IME but electrics really are tempremental
Stock questions to start with :-how many miles on speedo, how long hasit been sitting( covered or in dry garage?)when was the last time it had an MOT /tax?
What are tires like, look carefully for signs of perishing/how is chain and sprocket's/ How are fork legs for chrome are they Pitted? An M400 went for less than 600 last week and it looked quite tidy. Similar 600ss can turn up for as little as 500 if you're lucky.A Standing non-MOT bike is always an unknown quantity so beware and take a second person for their opinion preferably
popping from the exhaust was that when revved up or when letting the revs die down probably needs a good strip down of the carbs not sure about the restrictors do slightly remember it said on here a fair while back that the 600 doesn't like running well with the restrictors though could be wrong as for horror stories well they are mainly from people who think all bikes are reliable as the jap stuff but if you don't mind getting your hands dirty and fairly patient and above all a sense of humour then buy it and you can say you own a ducati trust me you don't get the same response when you say I have a cbr 600 lol
I know lots and lots that have sepnt the last 10 years being hammerred, properly hammerred, and only know of less than a handful of big blows. And they were 'blueprinted'
If it's a reasonable price and you are good at fixing up bikes yourself then buy it and start your adventure - all the help on here you could ask for and someone will be along soon to tell you about the UKM OC if you fancy another take on things
The bike has been messed about with in the sense it's started to be turned in a 'cafe racer' which is kind of what I would like to do, Think it's been sitting for about a year or so on paddock stands in his garage , it's only popping on idle , it revs fine and literally apart from that and the electrics it was a nice enough bike, to be honest it was very clean the forks looked brand new! Silly thinks like new pads and didn't check the chain as was more concentrated on the popping... since I've seen the bike the guys now trying to sell it online for almost £2000 , oh it has no indicators and the headlights hanging off. Thanks for the replies guys
Exactly!, think they do look really smart when done properly. The exhaust is rather tatty (looks like someone's cut the cans and welding them with there eyes closed) but I like welding stainless so could make something new up
Re: chain - nothing to do with price you should pay, all to do with clues to try and confirm how long it stood / how last owner treated it...
