996 fuel pump question...

  1. Hi all, I`m new to the forum and I wonder if anyone could help me on this...
Yesterday I had quite a big "off" on my 996. The fuel tank was eventually found in a field!
Today I`ve stripped the bike down and seperated the usable from the trash. The tank is trash, along with all the bodywork and front wheel. Something was rattling around the tank. When I removed the pump 3 small plastic bits dropped out. Ive taken a picture and I wonder if anyone can identify what they are and where they go!!

    Thanks people. IMAG0751.jpg

  2. I think they go on the top of the level sensor as, from memory, something doesn't look right about the exposed top...

  3. certainly the part on the left is the sealing cap on the level sensor as said, and maybe the right hand part is the float - not sure about the middle part in the picture though although the single central hole looks as though it also belongs to sensor.

  4. you can get the sensor bit separately or used to be able to.....

  5. The part on the left is the top off the float sender, middle part the float, third part looks like the transponder chip
that was put in the tank.

    brian.

  6. looks a bit big to be the float Brian unless it's swollen but I agree that the right hand bit does look like a datatag sender.

  7. Thanks all. Yes of course its the datatag. I`d never considered that, but I`ve not really got my thinking head on at the moment!
    Thanks for the help.
I`ll get going with the re-build as soon as I can move my right arm properly!!!!
Feeling so guilty about trashing a real pristine 996. But I`ll get her right again over winter.
