996 Noise Level With 50mm Cans?

  1. Its been some time since I did a track day (15 years actually!), had my name down for the Ducati day @ Silverstone a couple of months ago but my van broke down on the way there...anyway to the point.... Thinking of doing Oulton Park since its my local circuit, I have heard its strict on noise levels, whats the chance of my 996 with 50mm cans passing 102db noise check?

  2. if you have baffles and the cans are well packed you may have a chance.

my 916 with 45mm cans with baffles in was 103 at Brands...we had to wrap extra wadding around the baffle and stuff it in to pass the test(most of which blew out anyhoo)

turns out my cans did need repacking though - not used it since they've been done.

  3. I tested mine at Silverstone in June. 996 with 50mm race Termi's, think it was 104.4 at 4.5kRPM. Normally they test twins at 5.5kRPM.

Mine wouldn't even be close to passing.

If you ride to any track day someone should be about to test for you.

  4. My 45mm Termi's newly packed and with no baffles were putting out 107db. After fitting DB killers I got It down to 102db. When I did a trackday with a 98db maximum I had to fit fully adjustable baffles and that got it down to 98db easily enough.

You will at least need db killers and possibly more to get below the 102db level.

  6. Many thanks Gents, not looking good then for 102db, who makes good DB killers?

  7. Mark Hill made mine. Top rate exhaust man and used by many BSB riders etc.

Check the link and on the front page you will see an example of an adjustable baffle. Cost was about £90 odd per pair last year. They have to be custom made to your exhausts though for a good fit.
