996 sps #1008

  1. I bought SPS #1008 back in January and have spent the last few months cleaning her up and adding a few choice upgrades.

Before all this though, I asked Moto Rapido to inspect the bike - they serviced her and gave me a big bill for a new clutch and rockers. Everything else checked out so I was relieved overall. £1,000 for piece of mind - worth every penny!!!

So I stripped the bike down, cleaned, polished and lubed as I reassembled. I also added a few choice mods as I went. The list now looks like this:

    • DP slipper clutch
    • JHP billet clutch cover
    • Carbon nose fairing
    • Carbon belly pan
    • Titax shorty levers
    • DP fuel tank cap
    • DP Carbon Air Tubes
    • JHP foam filter
    • DP Carbon chain guard
    • New fan
    • Titanium rear axle nuts
    • Billet alu sprocket carrier
    • New sprocket nuts
    • Loads of bolts replaced with SS
    • Rear shock refurb and new spring
    • DP Rearsets, brake lever and gear lever [absolutely the most beautiful items....]
    • Carbon heel guards

Took her for the first ride today. Bloody epic!!! Noticed that the bottom n/s fairing is a slightly different shade of red though - so still a bit more work to do.

  2. Lovely bike Joe, looks in great condition. I just bought a 996 Biposto, had the Full Monty done by Snells to Grunter spec. Rebuilt forks, new Nitron Race shock, slipper clutch. Just picked it up this weekend, goes nicely.

  3. That is really gorgeous!

  4. Stunning bike Joe but please tell us you've got all the bits to make it standard spec again in the future. Whatever the answer I'm sure you'll enjoy owning and riding it.

  5. Of course. All stashed away ready to be put back to boring old standard when its time to display it at Beauliea.

  6. Nice bike, and good choice for the bits. Don't sell them ever. I've sold every standard part i've changed over the years. Such an idiot.

  7. I've kept all the standard parts. I recognise the importance of putting it all back standard at some point. I figure the DP parts will start to become very sought after soon too, some of them are already hard to get hold of such as the rearsets and carbon air tubes. I'll win both ways.

I'm planning to enjoy it for a few years and then totally restore it, return it to standard and turn it into a decorative piece :upyeah:. When I'm dead and gone, my kids can take it on the Antiques roadshow. Of course there won't be any petrol available so they won't be able to start it - not that it would anyway.......

  8. Stunning looking bike joe. congratulations. Quite often people can get carried away and overbling, but from what I can see, you have it spot on!

  9. Stunning bike!

  10. looks mint. I like the lower fairing in black. Where did you get the Alu sprocket carrier?

  11. Thanks. Yes, I was careful to make only changes in keeping with an SPS, focus on the parts that were letting the bike down because of their condition, and only use DP or Corse parts. The red sprocket carrier is the only bit of bling really, and I'm not totally sure about it, but the original carrier needed replacing - very tatty.

  12. Thanks Jim. The Belly pan is carbon fibre, and was added by the previous owner. I had to make a couple of brackets to make it fit properly. Collects stones though.........but is usefull to see if you've got any leaks......

The red sprocket carrier is from the US. I bought it off guy on ebay who bought it for the US. I had to turn 4 mm of the collar to get it to fit, so I'm not sure if it was ever intended for a 996. Seems like a quality item but i don't like it tbh, the red looks a bit tacky, it's a stop gap until I can get the original powder coated.

  13. Ahh ok I did think the red being a different colour looked a bit odd but, it's your baby and I'm not one to diss someones bike. I was thinking about getting a renthal quick release carrier so I don't have to worry about the cush drive rubbing the swing arm as it wears out (I also have an SPS).

I have got black DP rear sets on mine but, I don't have the originals. I brought it like that. Frame plugs is the next thing I want to get. Are your Alu ones or rubber? I have seen loads on eBay, not sure what to go for though.

  14. Jim, recognise you now. You got the SPS from silverstone didn't you? #1500. I went to look at that bike as you were buying it. Very tidy bike, but a bit high mileage, otherwise would've been perfect. Wouldnt start if i recall. Not their strong point that. Nice guys at the shop too - I tried to gazump you but they weren't having it. I thought I saw it on MCN the other day. Are you selling?

  15. Sorry, to your question. They are aluminium, exactly the same colour as the frame. They were already on the bike.

  16. Cracking bike ,exactly how a Ducati superbike should look. Red and mean with no shitty stickers or anodised bling.

  17. Yeah that's right. It was a bit awkward wasn't it? Like London buses no one looks at it for a few weeks then 2 in the same day half hour apart. I had seen it in the shop way before Christmas when I was coming back from the NEC from the bike show then forgot about it untill I had sold my Triumph.

Yeah the milage is more then most Duke's of it's type but, not for a 13year old bike with 1 owner and FSH which is why I didn't worry to much. They did say when I went back that you had offered the ticket price, I was quite glad they said no to be honest. It is on MCN but, not really trying to sell it to hard my situation has changed like they sometimes do and I it's quite a wedge to have tied up.

  18. Good Jaysus I'm in love , I've being thinking of getting another Ducati like a 996/998 now I want one even more

  19. You got a loverly bike with good provenance from a straight dealer. Don't get better than that. Be interested to see if you get any interest at the price.

  20. That's a real thing of beauty :upyeah:
