Guys and gals, please confirm it's just the 2 allen bolts (1 of which behind the generator cover) holding the starter motor in on a 996. I've taken them both out and given the motor a little tap but it's stuck so tight it makes me wonder if I've forgotten something.

There are in fact three, one of which you can access through a hole in the idler gear. You have to turn the engine by hand until it lines up. You can then undo and extract the allen bolt through the hole. http://www.mad-ducati.com/Technical/Engine/StarterMechanism_M.jpg
What a star Duke . I had a little peer around the gear initially but with the 2 I removed being opposite each other my mind had decided that was enough. Working outside in the cold and dark removes my motivation to go problem solving. Thanks again.
