996R Fully floating Discs

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Russ, Jun 6, 2013.

  1. it seems that Ducati do not stock or sell the Semi floating front discs for the 996R anymore (Unless you know different) so they will have to be replaced with fixed items from Ducati these are going to cost....wait for it............£700 a pair all in supply only  these are the same fixed discs as fitted to all 996 / 998's so what do you guys buy? and where do you buy them from?.....BTW.....they need to be gold centers......any ideas chaps will be gratefully recieved

  2. I run Brembo track discs, £600 a pair, with Harris rotors, yes they're gold, and £55 a piece. Look on my album and you'll see. About the same cost all in although it was a few years ago i bought them, but at least it'll be a full floating set up again.

  3. AH ha Harris forgot about Lester and Steve......I'll give them a call....although having had a dig about myself.....I called John at JHP Ducati Coventry he can get hold of the 5.5mm thick Brembo discs and they mate them to their own Center stars (Gold) once you've paid up 2 week delivery cost £440 + VAT (£528)....I'll call Harris anyhows.....how do I look at your album?

  4. be worth giving Bike Torque Racing or Mode performance a call. Both Brembo importers

  5. I wasn't aware the 996R's had fully floating discs.

  6. How much , I'm going to have to start riding like I'm on a Harley and only use the rear brake from now on.

  7. The original discs are available 49240261A £252 each inc VAT

  8. So these are the Semi floating discs (rotors/hubs) specifically for the 996 R? as there are others available for 916/996 but they exclude the R models its to do with the offset....according to Snells and JHP they're not available anymore through Ducati and Brembo don't make them anymore although they do make an aftermarket set but they're fixed not floating and have Black hubs not gold JHP or Harris can get the 5.5mm thick rotors through their contacts in racing but you'll need the hubs made with the correct offset for the 996 R model which JHP or Harris Performance can make....I'm only saying what I've been advised by several dealers and specialists and guys with Duc' SPS etc that race them.......anyhow Bolds have you got a contact or a link for these please as I'd be interested to get some.....cheers

  9. 996R discs are not fully floating. they share the same offset as 748R's

  10. I can confirm that the original discs on my 996r are not full floaters. HTH.

  11. ....and they're 15mm offset, as opposed to the standard 10mm.

  12. amazing forums can actually produce the odd snippet of info now and then and not just the usual banal banter we all love....LOL....heres a pic of the rear of a 996R full floating disc showing the star shaped clip holding the bobbins in place go an give your discs a wiggle you should feel it move very slightly (floating) if it doesn't move at all its the fixed item BTW the fully floating and fixed item at first glance look the same but look at the rear of the disc and you won't see the star shaped clip......all BSB, WSBK & MotoGP bikes have fully floating discs the latter will be carbon items

  13. All that was different between the 998s etc and the 996r was the offset. They're semi-floating discs.

  14. your discs must have been replaced at sometime?

  15. 996R offset is a hardly discernible 5mm

  16. whats a semi floating disc? please explain

  17. Semi floaters have a spring action in them, to centre them on the carrier. Full floaters have no spring washers inside and rely on the pads to track them centrally though the calipers. hence, they jingle and jangle when you rotate the wheel.

  18. Fair enough

  19. Yep :upyeah:
