I've had the offer of a pair of termi carbon cans from a 998R to fit onto my 998s. Both are 50mm but the oem 998 cans are quite restrictive so the cans should see a nice improvement. The seller also has the 998r ecu. Would this be a worth while addition and if so should I change anything else to match up. Gonna have a read reference the differences in the bikes but hoping there maybe someone reading who's done similar or has a greater knowledge than me and my dare I mention honda knowledge lol Cheers in advance Paul
Paul, I use to own a 998s, wish I never sold it, and I'm in the market for one, but they are asking silly money..... Anyway I did the swap, the ecu gives you a bit more fuel and as far as I remember also about 700rpm. So I would suggest a reflash with several dyno tests, that will make it smooth and more powerful. The sound though is awesome!!

I was reading through and pc111's seem to get mixed reveiws lol. Some saying its fine with out one with cans changed etc some saying yes do it etc etc. Im guessing some is placebo effect and possibly it varies from bike model to bike model. When i saw the termis with the 998r computer guessed it may be a better option. Ive been looking to sell mine for ages! I'd put it up then decide against, put it up then decide against lol. I decided to do a few things to it to make it easier/more enjoyable to see if i could fall in love again and changing the sprockets to 14 front with new chain has made the bike sooooo much easier to ride. I fitted a bigger clutch slave too which again has made it more pleasurable to ride. Now when following my friend on his new blade i can keep it in the power easier and every thing is nicer. Like a new bike really. Thinking id like to hear her making a little more noise now too as ive heard a few thundering around and the twin is such a beautiful noise. I'd still consider selling her after the summer though. The house i was looking at buying fell through (just after selling all my other bigger bikes to fund it!)and now she's the last big bike in the garage, got three honda nc30s in there which take up alot of my time and with three boys ive been looking at calming it down for a while. Also it'll be a nightmare moving them all when i do find a house. The ducati stayed till last cause i knew it'd be very hard to replace but family will come first if the right offer comes in
You could try, my experience was that it used more fuel, smelled like fuel and really needed a good tune. But I never gave her that one. I replaced it with a streetfighter 1098, that has termi's and a reflash. Good luck with it.
Paul, I have a brand new virgin ECU for the 998s with 50mm race cans if you have any doubts about using the 998R. ChrisW is the man to seek advice from. Andy
Cheers android I'll give him a shout. The cans are on the way with the ecu as they were a pair sold together. I've also got a 50mm link pipe which will be spare as my systems already 50 mm. I'm not the best with electrics really. Or tuning come to mention it! I'd guess the other problem may be that the 998R ecu has already been flashed to suit air intake mods and or exhaust mods. I'll seek further info from the seller. Having had a few calls and messages exchanged it turns out he's raced in the tt main event, been placed in the Manx and 5th in the nw200! Lovely guy. He's sent me pictures of his trophies and plaques from before I was born. So I would guess it may not be standard maps in there!
If that is a 45mm to 50mm link pipe and it's in good nick, it's like rocking horse poo. Whilst it's not worth a king's ransome don't sell it on for peanuts or cheesey wotsits, chewed or not. Andy
The good thing is that you can always download the map that's currently on there - if it's not standard - and put it back on later if you wish. They come out as files that contain the fuel map along with the ignition map (advance/retard) so whatever has been changed in that ECU could be put back on.
