So I've managed to get ahold of a 998R but I had a quick question about the front fairing. The bike itself is in good shape but I'm the third owner; the second owner bought it from an IRS auction here in the US so there isn't any info prior to that auction. The bike itself came with the race version of the 998R tail; it has no light cutouts but is an OEM Ducati piece with correct barcode and paint and stickers. It also has the correct carbon side fairings, belly pan, front fender, swingarm stuff, airbox, v fairing between the radiators, and monoposto underseat tray. The original owner put on Ducati Performance air runners. The front fairing is regular 998 plastic; was this originally also carbon or was it the only plastic piece (or rather second, along with the plastic air runners)? I've looked at the 998R parts fiche and the front doesn't look carbon from there; it shares the same part number as the regular 998 and 998S. So I guess I'm wondering if any other 998R owners, do you have a carbon front from stock? Trying to get this bike back to mostly period correct so if it did come with a carbon nose then I'll continue searching for an OEM one and probably pick up an aftermarket one to hold it over until/if I can ever find an original. Thanks for any info!
I have a 996R airbox fitted on my 998s and also a 998R C/F seat unit, they complement each other perfectly.
For those that interested the Ducati part number for the C/F nose cone is 969163AAA. You might be able to find a dealer who might have a NOS item but personally, having used all genuine Ducati C/F stuff in the past, I would look for a decent after market supplier (on recommendation) to get a good quality nose cone. Ducati C/F supplied products are basically crap.
Thanks for all the help! I might give it a shot trying to hunt down the OEM piece but I don't have much hope. I'll probably end up with an aftermarket one, might do that when I send off the fairings in September-ish to get refurbished to one of the Ducati painters here in the States.
Haha, if you’ve still got it come September then I’d probably be willing to take it off your hands You’re seat unit is damn tempting too but I’m looking for a 998 style ventless
I’ll never sell it mate. Bought all the carbon body panels together. All logos hand painted on, no stickers apart from the tank which will be sorted soon.
That’s a beautiful bike! Looks amazing, hoping mine turns out close to that well when I get finished.
