998s valve clearances

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Hughdg, Mar 9, 2013.

  1. Just about to do valve clearances on my 998 for the first time and looking in the book it lists "standard value" and "max value". I take it that for normal servicing checks that "standard value" is the one to work to. Any hints/tips always welcome.

  2. Also, anyone have preferred clearances that they have found to be optimal?

  3. Standard will be the assembly tolerances. Max will be service tolerances. I'd see where they are before thinking about changing. Even service tolerances are fairly tight for a road engine with closing springs

  4. Thanks Neil, checked them all and the closers are pretty loose, all between .31 and .35. I've got new half rings to put in but I don't think they will be enough to get within tolerance.
