Last ride out of last season a stone decided to take out the tip of my hugger. So, how easy is it to trim? I'm going to have to take an inch off the edge. Would a flap disc and grinder be the best thing for it? Cheers G
Saw it to basic shape with a hacksaw or other thin blade saw then file it to final shape with a good metal file. Carefully.
Whichever way you do it make sure you wear a dust mask, you don't want to be breathing CF in its carcinogenic octor:
I don't know if you're trying to make a statement of fact or disagreeing with my advice OK so there is some debate as to whether CF or the resins are the more dangerous, it may not in itself be toxic but neither is asbestos! However there is no doubt that cutting and sanding carbon composite material will create dust, part of this dust will be tiny little "spears" of CF which will, if no protection is used, be breathed in and embed themselves in the lining of the lungs, not something you will simply cough up they will continually do damage and could lead to something extremely dangerous. So I would just repeat if drilling/cutting/sanding CF use some breathing protection, to advise any differently would make me a twat
I was told on a asbestos awareness course that the micro fibres are razor sharp which bleeds the lungs unlike cf and fibreglass, also cf and fibreglass micros are larger and 80% filtered ot anyway. Besides, how many of us worry about inhaling benzene when we fill up.
