Just got myself a 999 last weekend. It's 03. I'm wanting to put termi end can on. Are they all the same or does the cans also depend on the model. Will I have to make changes to ecu etc?. I'm also wondering what my options are to do away with the pillion seat. From what I understand the mono seat won't fit on the bip subframe? Thanks for any help
Still covered by the single seat unit, no problem fitting with 5 mins of ingenuity for the top fixing.
I did the conversion from Bi to mono a month ago. Looks way better. I managed to find from one of the members on here a mono seat and tail fairing complete and a mono sub frame on fleabay. Careful on the sub frames, the early 999 frames were prone to cracking and there are a few after market ones about which are not particularly good quality. Try to find an original 2005/2006 sub frame. Took me half an hour to switch it all over when I had all the parts assembled. All fixings just switch from bi to mono so don't worry about bolts, you have them all already. Can't comment on the termi's, mine already had them fitted and they bolted onto the mono frame in the same way as they did on the bi. Great conversion, you will stand back with a big broad grin when you've done it
Just sold it 2 weeks ago but it looked like this... I bought the carbon seat unit on an Ebay auction this year for £68
Well, it's a proper mono, it doesn't wobble or fall off, it didn't need a new sub frame, but it's not OEM no :Shifty:
I did the same as well as I have exactly the same bike. The 'proper' OEM mono-seat fairing leaves the original BIP frame poking out the back a bit. Also it sits up a little bit as there is no rubber grommet for the locating pin under the mono-seat to push into. Plus it is about 3kg heavier and way uglier. Get the mono-subframe and OEM seat unit and you are sorted - I actually noticed a difference on the track with the weight saving. PM me if you want to buy them as I have both available. You don't 'need' a chip for if you put the termi's on but you should probably get the existing remapped to take advantage of better breathing. I got a power commander to do this and left the chip standard or else you can get the OEM chip remapped. PM me if you are after a power commander as I also have one that plugs straight into your bike for sale
Thanks for the feedback folks. What sort of money would you be talking for each Joelipol. You don't have exhaust for sale also lol. PM me cheers
Pics of mine below. This is the authentic mono look with all the Ducati bits. Assembling all the bits was just short of £300. It was a standard Bi before I started.
That looks well. I was looking about and there is a cowl you can buy. Works out at 165 plus vat And replaces pillion seat. I quite like it but would be worried about how well it would fit being aftermarket
I looked at them. There are various reports from people on the forum of what they look like ranging from cheap and nasty to pretty good. Typical forum opinions. In the end I decided I wanted the authentic look, and it was only going to cost me an extra £125 to get it so went down that route.
If you want to make your bike look like a twat buy the 3rd party none OEM "Mono" seat units (Sorry Exige they don't look great)
I don't dis agree having my 2 R's sat there looking pretty - but some people think so: I bought mine for little money with a conscious view that it would help sell it and it seemed to work!
I'm not keen on those pseudo-D16rr tail units either but they're still an improvement on the stock biposto one, which just looks wrong to me: like somebody's strapped a cushion onto the rear your superbike - it's just not supposed to be there!
Best of luck looking for a termi end can my friend. I've been searching for one for over a year now without much luck. They pop up from time to time but sellers ask way to much for them. I think I must have the only 749 without one as every bike I see seems to have these fitted. Anyway, you wouldn't be able to hear the clutch with one of them on would you!!? I converted my bip to mono using genuine Ducati parts and have never looked back plus the weight saving is quite something. I did toy with the idea of a seat cowl from Corse Design but wasn't sure if it was a good fit or not. You do have to change the subframe to fit the mono tail but it's no big task and looks much better in my opinion. Oh,I easily over took a yellow one on the road the other day as red ones are always faster! Just saying.........
