999 Header Bolts,

  1. I'd like to take the exhaust headers off , the upper cylinder is ok, nuts loose, the lower 3 are going to round off, is it best to cut them off? Or leave as is ( I've a buyer for the exhaust system and planned to fit the OEM exhaust back on so this is not essential, but I'd like to

  2. Am I best leaving alone? Will potentially cutting the nut off reveal a wrecked stud?

  3. Assuming I can get the nuts off, how difficult is it to remove the studs?

  4. Pretty easy if you take your time. Quick squirt of Plusgas, gentle tap with the hammer then fit the nuts.
I used a decent thickness nyloc for the bottom and just a thin nut for locking.

  5. Is a Dremel the best sort of tool to try and cut the nuts off ?

  6. Possibly, with a slitting disc.

  7. So, cut one nut off successfully , another came out with a socket with better access ( removed battery assembly thing), sheared the 3rd, so after 18 years could have been a lot worse. Just one stud to extract

  9. If course you know that I mean I've had the bike 18 years, first time those nuts have been touched

  12. Unlike mine

  13. Extraction of the broken ( sheared ) stud failed at first hurdle, because of the shape of the head, and the stud that broke, there's not enough clearance to get the stud extractor on the remnants, looks like it's drill time....
