999 Overheating 126!

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by slumdog, Sep 14, 2013.

  1. 80 90 mph noticed the temp light blinking at 126 degrees - clutch in and air flow dropped it to below 120 where it stopped blinking. test at home on tickover , fans came on and temp stayed around normal 110 degrees .
    Any ideas ? :frown:

  2. Have year you checked the oil and coolant level and worth checking for leaks at hose joints. Also check oil level window for signs of water as it will show if you have a head leak. If all clear could simply be the temp sensor I would think. Is it holding those temps or fluctuating?

Might be worth checking the fuses. Not sure what runs the waterpump.

  3. 1st fan comes on at 101/2 then 2nd fan cuts in 2 degrees later on mine. In town in hot weather 105+, never much over 110 in this country. If fluid level ok I would be checking water pump. You should be able to feel if its circulating by temp in and out of rad from cold

  4. thermostat or impeller on pump if coolant ok. take up to temp and feel if hot air coming from behind fans when fan operating if not coolant not circulating..

  5. Just looked up inside the oil stopper and white sludge ! Water level bit low - could be a dreaded head gasket .. Anyway of finding out which cylinder or testing if it that at all ? :(

  6. more likely a sticking stat than water pump

  7. compression check or spark plug

  8. Moved to Superbike
