999 Service Warning Light

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by cockneyjanner, May 23, 2012.

  1. Hi All,

Have any of you had the service indicator reset by anyone other than a main dealer? Mine's showing 1 spanner, and it's steady - not flashing.

Is there a way of clearing it yourself?

I had my bike serviced very recently, but before the indicator was on, so I didn't give it a thought at the time. It's come on today and although the bike doesn't need anything I just know it will irritate me!

    TVM!

  2. Can only be done with the Mathesis unit, ie dealer. If you had it serviced take it back for them to extinguish it. The icon only appears after certain mileage so cannot be removed prior to it coming on. Mine has been on forever as I do my own work, but don't have the tool to plug into reset.

  3. Someone friendly like Lougi moto would do it for you, to be honest any dealer who wanted your future custom may be helpful.

  4. Thanks very much guys.
I'll look into the new place opening in Plymouth, and see if they'll do it for me.

  5. Check out the softwear Ducatidiag. It's from a French enthusiast who wrote the programme. It's freeware and all you'll need is a couple of cables of eBay.

You can do alsorts like reset the tps once you've changed an ECU or the like but it's a simple press of a button on the dish softwear to turn off the spanner.

Once you've downloaded it you'll need to plug it all in and email the fella a number off your ECU for it to work so he knows it isn't being used commercially.

Where are you as I may be able to do it for you? Incedently mines just come on too.

  6. Ah cockney janner.

I might be in Plymouth in a week or two. If I do, I'll bring my netbook & cables and drop you a line. Free will be a bit cheaper than a dealer.

Is GT not a Ducati dealer? I read somewhere the original owner brought it back from George Whites when they went under.

  7. Wish that would work for my engine managment light, I've removed the fans ,Rich at Lougi said they cant disable the light for that problem as they havent been able to find the right code to disable it ,even though they can tell the ecu to disregard the fans being removed there is something else bringing up the light.

  8. I think you're in luck. Near you is SP, down the road from Bridge M/Cs, they're Ducati people disguised as MV/Aprilia. I seem to recall that they switched off that light a few years back on my Multi during a service when I asked them.

  9. In my opinion, to reset the key service check spy , it takes the latest version of the DDS [Ducati Diagnostic System] , the key spy is not reset by the panel.
It isn't easy to use a improvised software
The CAN bus of the latest Ducati, should travel to 1Mbit, while the previous to 128 Kbits.
If you go to the ducati store, you do it in 5 minutes

    ciao

  10. Thanks again for all your help guys.
Let me know when you're coming down Matt & maybe we can meet up.

  11. As already posted, its worth spending the 15 quid on the two cables and downloading the free software ducatidiag to do this and other bits a pieces, like the tps reset and imobiliser reset etc.

Getting the cable set on the right com port on the pc is the hardest part, but even that is just like setting an old modem up, and is easily enough to confirm its working prior to connecting to your bike.

The ECU on the 999 should be the iaw 59m and as such it won't even require a .lic licience from jp as the ecu doesn't have a serial number.

If you need any help give me a shout or Chrisw is a wizard with loads of help and advise regarding it and the iaw 59m ecu.

  12. I'm really happy with spanners and anything mechanical, but computers scare me! There's no way I'd have the balls to connect my lovely bike to one!!!!

  13. I've just edited my last post.....but again if you want any help or info on the cables software or set up drop me a pm.

Or I'm sure chrisw will be happy to help you out.

  14. Anth can you change the initial greeting that comes up, When 999 appears on the screen I have something else, because its an aftermarket ecu that was hanging around at lougi moto.
I'd fried my oe one by using a jump pack and I think this replacement is a foreign version, speed is kph and temp needs changing too

  15. Is it PC only or Mac too?

  16. Hi Peter,

With the writer software I can definitely change the welcome message on my 848, but to be honest I'm not sure on the 999, but chrisw will definitely be able to answer that for you as its a 999 that he play's around on.

As for the mph and kph and c and f thing....you should be able to change that right from within the dash it's self, again the 848 1098 1198 dash can be changed by a key sequence and turning the key on to enter the service menu.

If it cannot, then the ecu (iaw 59m) could be re flashed with a uk spec flash.

Speak to chrisw re the 999

  17. PC......but it doesn't require any great hardware specs. So a cheap laptop would probably be an alternative.

  18. As Anth has already said, Ducatidiag is easy to use and is compatible with all the bikes using IAW59M or IAW5AM ECU's. The startup editing is only compatible with the later bikes 848,1098,1198, HM etc and to do this you need the Writer program (100 euros). The biggest problem people have is resisting the urge to plug the Vag Com lead into their PC before installing the driver software. The only word of warning is to NEVER reverse the polarity of the fly leads on the Fiat adaptor. I've been using this software since 2010 and it is fantastic. The Ducatidiag forum is also full of useful info. I'm running my kit on a Netbook I picked up off eBay for £120 (new). I junked the Win7 Starter and installed XP on it as Ducatidiag is written for XP.
