999 Service?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Axe, Nov 13, 2014.

  1. As posted in the newbies section, I've got my 2005 999 ebay purchase home. It had a major service including belt change at 6900mls, but that was back in 2009, its only done 1100mls in 5yrs! I'm new to ducatis and would appreciate what you guys would recommend, yes It needs a service/check over, but I wouldn't think it needed a belt change as they have only done 1100mls.
Also, I'm having a hard job finding accessories for ducatis, are they only available from dealers? ie., seat cowl, open clutch cover, termi exhaust etc...
    cheers

  2. Termi exhausts are now quite sought after and hard to come by if you didn't get one with the bike. They do pop up from time to time but never cheap. Fairing parts often found on ebay, and open clutch covers available from all sorts of places: I got mine from CTMoto: CTMOTO BY CARBON TRADER - DUCATI BILLET ALLOY CARBON FIBRE SPECIAL PARTS who sell all manner of carbon and billet alloy parts. Decent quality too.

  3. You would be better off changing 5 year old belts . Ducati recommend 2 years on the 999 series so they are well old . Dont want to see your new toy obliterated before you ride it properly .

  4. Totally agree, definitely get the belts changed,i'd also change the oil and filter ,better to be sure,1100 miles in 5 years sounds good but low mileage over long periods isn't necessarily a good thing...Loads of bits and pieces are available on ebay ,but be careful some are of dubious quality, however there are still bargains to be had.

  5. Thanks for your replies guys, got a quote from my nearest ducati dealership : £1000 for full service with belts changed and valve check (gulp), £500 for same without valves checked.
Spoke to my local indie and they quoted £400-£500 for full incl belts and valves but I have to buy the cam belt tools.
I've had a look on ebay and am I right in saying there are 2 tools I have to get?
    Thanks

  6. If they don't have the tools then you should probably seek a local independent Ducati Specialist - still no pictures? :(

  7. Especially somewhere who doesn't have the tools :Wideyed:

  8. Absobloodylutely.

  9. What cam belt tools . Ive changed dozens and I havent got any. Got a flywheel holding tool cause you need one of them but you dont need no special tools to change the belts.

Oh also got one to help with valve timing but thats a different job as well.
