999 999 With Asymmetric Termi - Too Loud For Uk Track Days?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by deaks, Jul 11, 2023.

  1. Thinking of doing some uk track days and possibly Portimao next year. My 999 is running a decat mid pipe and asymmetric Termi slip on. Whilst she is nowhere near as loud as my MULTISTRADA 1200 with a full Termi system, I’m concerned about failing noise tests.
My local track is Castle Coombe which is notorious for strict noise controls so that might never be a goer, but Snetterton and Donington look like fun.

would I need to add some baffles to pass noise testing for most uk tracks?

and if so, has anyone got any for sale?

    TIA

    Deaks :)

  2. I have some baffles similar to that (not for sale) in my full 57mm system.
Last week tested at 99dB at Brands.

  3. Thanks RickyX, looks like I’ll be firing up the tig welder and making a set. I can’t find anywhere in the UK, and from NL they are over 100 euros.

  5. Big thanks to t3scn (Simon) now sorted with a set of baffles.
Just need a set of cheap(ish) race fairings.... oh and a thumb brake would be nice.
Kin 'ell does it ever stop!!!!!
Just as well my two Daughters are doing alright, there wont be anything left for them when I go.
My first Grandson Freddie will be the new owner of my 999 when I pop my clogs.

  7. Combe static tested me at 103db (749 with full system) Passed :upyeah: ...the marshall was laughing, he reckoned the clutch rattle was worth at least 3db :grinning:

  8. worth remembering though that castle Combe test at 3/4 engine revs and only a metre from the exhaust. My mv f3 with totally stock exhaust that sounded like a hairdryer was apparently over 100Db but they made me hold it to 8k revs and it maxed at 12k rpm….

also, they let anyone on it’s their mates, like the bloke on the Manx/Norton that har megaphones on and was the noisiest bike I’ve heard in a very long time… he was also mates with them

  9. My Ducati 250 single racer with an open mega passed because they liked the smell of Castrol R :innocent:

  11. Who doesn’t live the smell of Castrol R!!
I’m sure you can get candles that smell of it.
At Las Vegas Speedway Drag strip, they had candles of nitro methanol and burnt rubber!

My 999 is booked in for a noise test at the Combe tomorrow at 11.00.

  12. Unless it’s changed in recent times, the Combe noise test is not consistent with that done at other UK tracks. Andy

  13. It’s a couple of old duffers in white overalls standing under that tin shed after the track exit.
Take along a pouch of old shag ready rubbed and some Kendal mint cake, you will be fine :p
