I have a 2004 999s that i would like to convert to a mono seat. Can anyone advise me the easiest and cheepist way to convert. Is there any good replica / copy seat units available. cheers all.
Ducati Performance seat will go straight on to the same subframe as your bip seat did. I did the same on my 749. then someone wanted a bip subframe so I then swapped him for his Alum one. Some pics here.
Just to expand on Ghosts post, you have a few options. If you want a full mono conversion you need a mono subframe and a complete mono rear tail piece. There are 2 pieces and the front part with the vent is not interchangable with the BIP. For both subframe and seat you are looking at approx 200-250 for the subframe and the same amount for the tail but you might pick up a cheaper copy for the tail as someone on Ducatisti used to make good copies and there are a few about. Prices are approx and for used parts. Ebay is your friend. Personally I dislike the Ducati performance part & other versions of the same thing as they are the wrong shape for the bike but each to their own. If you want to keep the BIP subframe for flexibility etc in terms of pillions then you have two options. You can either get a tail unit like on Ghosts bike above which can be had for all sorts of prices depending on if you buy from mr Wong or you can just buy a seat cowel. I agree with JC the DP seat looks biz, spend a little more and do it properly. Subframe & mono seat unit Ducati 999 Single Seat Unit And Race Subframe | eBay offer him £300 and bolt it all on.
Thats a good price. Ive seen a few of those subframes and would have one as they are better engineered than the mk1 & 2 Ducati items but they dont look quite as nice and wont have the same resale value (maybe). Demon Tweeks sell them if you want to see the price as they aint cheap! Have a look through the superbike gallery thread and you will see some good mono bikes.

He does a very good job and used to be a member on "the other" forum, Id defo go for that set up if you're finding the monoposto set up expensive or want to take the odd pillion . (a proper ducati mono seat pad will fit it as well.)
