9R for a MSVA Test

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Toolface, Mar 8, 2013.

  1. I bought an unregistered 2005 9R in November last year but I have not been able to register it in the UK as it came without a CoC. The DVLA will not register it without a CoC. Ducati in Italy have been slightly less than useless and after 4 months of calls and emails, I am giving up and going to try to get it through an MSVA in the UK. (Ducati UK just relay everything to Italy and add at least a week either side of every email or phone call).

So has anybody here got experience of the MSVA? How tough are they on noise? Emissions?

Would anybody have a street legal exhaust for a 2005 9R for sale? Mine says "Race only" all over it!!

    thanks
    TF

  2. What is a "9R"?

  3. 2005 I'm guessing a 999R

  4. Get some wet and dry or a Dremel and polish the race use only off mate....

  5. Yes it's a 999R.
Thanks Peo, I'm really asking if somebody knows how vicious the MSVA tests are..... Anybody tried it??

  6. No matter what it does or doesn't say on the can, it will need to pass a noise test.

  7. My knowledge of it is limited but a friend of mine imported a Harley 1600 engined chopper with straight through exhaust. Far louder than any termi... He claimed that it left the factory like that hence was standard.

I'd be claiming that it doesn't say not for road use ( once it doesn't) and that the bike came from Ducati with that extra fitted.

Im sure the regs will be bendable if you read them.

  8. Where did you get it from? was the unregistered bit reflected in the price? Why not try somewhere like forza italia at Silverstone they 'import ' a lot of grey bikes including ducatis and register them in the uk.

  9. nope, the regs aren't 'bendable'. The bike will have to pass a noise test, and if it fails you will have to change the exhaust.

  10. Read from page 141 onwards. It's more than just noise that they check

  11. It's usually done by an old boy in a flat cap, more officious than a council building control officer.

  12. Good info, thanks very much.
its what I was afraid of. I think better to get a street legal exhaust on her then.
I'll check with Forza Italian too...

  13. Good advice from Andyb - looks like Forza Italia can find me a street legal can to plug on for the MSVA test. Thanks again. To answer your question - it was a private sale and yes, I thought it was a fair price for a low mileage non-registered bike, but I didn't realise that the "Ducati declaration" thing would be rejected by the DVLA and I didn't know that 6 months later I would still be trying to get it registered. Had I known I would have offerred less in hindsight. But... what a bike!! A great motor and great ride - I have a 1980 900SS so it is interesting to ride grandma for a bit and then jump on the wild-child. 30 years of progress.... I'll try to attach a photo of them IMG_0999.jpg .
