If you have not seen my intro, I've been a biker for over 30 years now. I got a dodgy left leg and my knee is the main issue. I had a Harley and fit forwards which was OK if you like to replace unavailable or expensive nuts and bolts as you ride!! I had to trade it in for money for last years summer hols, and I got a Suzi gsr600 inline 4 naked bike, which I commute 3 miles to work on each day. I might get a nice payout next summer and was looking to upgrading the bike to a "old school trial bike" with a bit of power. The thumpers I had previously came out of some corners at 80 (kmh officer!) And I opened the throttle and it said "yeah right, what do you want me to do?". I have sat on the Hypers and think the Strada 821 would be on the best fit. Anyway thanks for reading, now the question..... mates with Dukes always run the engines for what seems like 5 minutes befoe getting on. Is this required for the newer ones? ( I could be at work by then!!) Or is it just foreplay? I know about not thrashing cold engines, etc, had loads of two strokes before. Will there be any downside I have not seen ? I do about 2.5 to 3k, usually mostly on Friday afternoons if I knock of work early! Shhhhh dont tell the Mrs. Do the valves need adjusting at "just" the 18k milage, or is it time bound too? Thanks in advance for the basic Duke questions.
They warm them up so as not to stall them. Its also good practice to do on any bike, I still start my Hyper and let it run whilst getting my gear on, so no time wasted, what's a few minutes anyway. The servicing is time or mileage whatever comes 1st, but I can't see my dealer doing them in two years if the bike has only covered a few thousand miles. It wouldn't really be necessary. Plus the warranty would be expired by then, as long as a service was done and the book stamped up, that would do for me. The belts however would be a different story, i'd have them done. Don't think you would be disappointed if you bought one, this is the most versatile fun bike iv'e ever owned.
I have my Hyper serviced once a year as I only do 3-4000 miles per year. I have had the belts replaced every two years and the valves were checked after four years and required 6 new gaskets and shims. Proved to be a very expensive service, £917, but bike feels as good as it did once run in. Agree with Mentalist - Hyper is the most fun bike I've had so far. For some strange reason I have started hankering after a Diavel.
