Hi all, firstly, i have to admit, i don't own a Ducati and have never ever ridden a Ducati, but a good mate of mine owns a multi 1000DS. However, he is one of those people that refuses to admit the internet exists! He has a problem and i'm hoping somebody can help. Firstly, we live in Alice Springs in central Australia and the nearest Ducati dealer is 800 miles away. So anyways, they other day he was riding and suddenly the engine cut out, luckily he was close to his house and walked it home. Now, what happens is, when he puts in the key and turns the ignition on, no worries, but when he hits the starter button, the bike tries to start for a second then stops and THEN the EOBD light comes on. Every other post ive found on the EOBD light says it comes on when you turn on the ignition and you can hold A then turn on the ignition to get the error message. In this case its different as he doesn't get the EOBD light until after hitting the starter, and holding A when turning the bike from off to on doesnt seem to do anything. Hopefully somebody can give us some pointers. Cheers
First thing I change when my bike starts playing up is the injector/fuel pump relay. A nice cheap part to start with.
with the key out, try unplugging the large multi-plug that goes into the instrument panel underneath, blow it out and re-fit firmly. mine did the same once, that sorted it.
duke's need a good battery , the bike will still turn over but it will not have enough grunt to generate a good spark , i know this as i had the same sort of problem with mine , a new battery sorted it
You're going to get all kinds of guesses...... Electrical...relay sounds feasible as the motor turns then stops and goes default as power gets switched somewhere............hmmm. Tap everything with wires going into it would be my approach.
