I’m back on a pikes peak having just sold my hyper 1100 evo sp. This is the second time I’ve made the exact same move although this time it’s the 1260 multi. My last one had skyhook and somehow it didn’t feel right so fingers crossed this one will. Had a bit of time to play with since it arrived on the weekend so I stuck on some heated grips (now booked in to be coded), a Roadlock, some tank grips, a lithium battery, tender cable for the optimate, and a ram ball holder for my iPhone. The battery should have been the easy job but the ‘nut’ for the allen screw holding the battery strap kept spinning so I had to use some trickery to get it off. Have a top box and the dp alarm on order and that will do for mods this month.
I tied some thin rope/ cord around the battery strap and my shoulder (a loop) so I could apply a little (but not excessive) upward pressure. Stuck an Alan head drive in my drill and spun at high speed whilst maintaining upward pressure. After a few minutes the Alan screw and knurled ‘nut’ popped out. It gets hot, but that’s the idea, so be careful not to touch it. I let it cool then removed the nut from the bolt (gripped the nut with pliers as it was tight), applied some oil, put the nut back on the bolt (about half way), applied some araldite glue to the recess, tapped the head of the bolt to knock the nut back into the hole (still a tight fit), removed the bolt from the nut and let the glue set. The ‘repair’ is unnoticeable.
Thanks for the breakdown - I am fairly sure this is my last winter with this battery so will be giving this a go soon enough.
Look at the thread about resetting the ‘standard’ suspension settings, doing this made a huge difference to the feel of mine.
Getting it set up properly also makes a huge difference , I almost sold mine before I had it done , now 23k miles later ,I still love it
I agree. then tweak to taste afterwards. From memory the 1260 pikes peak operating manual gets the drawing of where the dials for rear rebound and compression the wrong way round so watch out.
I had the same problem, surely Ducati know this is a weakness. Fairly crap engineering so far. I had a triumph explorer before and initial impressions are that it was much better made in some areas. Hopefully the performance will win me over to the multi. Thanks for the solution I shall give it a whirl.
In fairness - other than the same issues you might experience on all/any manufacturers bikes, this is the only workmanship/quality problem I have found on this particular bike - similar sorry on the twin spark I had before, I have just got a KTM as a second bike and Jesus wept that’s a different story!!
Hopefully it'll just be this one wee thing as I love the look and feel of the bike. I just haven't had it long enough or put enough miles on it to really judge it. But I'm optimistic
I’ve had this problem too, you can just slightly bend the arm and it will come out, then just swivel it out the way, it’s very easy to do.
I'm enjoying my 1260PP. Can't see a reason for the V4 other than a Pani but that's another story. Not a fan of top boxes. Panniers are a better option which I rarely use but that's just my opinion. I have a back-rack for a small bag which is more useful for day to day. However, I respect everyone's choices. I've had a Anti-Gravity LI battery since day one. No issues. Rad-guard for insurance. I bought the Navihalter GPS bracket ( can be used for a phone) with no issues but I believe the UK's Iconic set-up is equivalent. Best Mod for me was a +2R gearing change. Had it done at the 600 miles first service. Heated grips, center stand and a few cosmetic mods completes my package. The rear mud guard was removed shortly thereafter with a noticeable improvement in rear suspension. Enjoy your new ride.
Some good suggestions - thank you. I’m not a top box fan either but prefer it for ease of filtering over panniers on the occasion I need to put it on. I’ve heard good things about gearing changes although will look into remap options. Had my first hyper remapped by Chris at Louigi’s and it transformed its round town use. Not sure if it would do the same for the multi though.
When you do get a remap, please post your dyno chart results on this forum thread: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/dyno-sheet-1260.63926/page-2 A "Before and After" would be really appreciated.
