........a horse..... Then the bl**dy horseflies wouldn't be biting me....I hope.... I have acquired two effing great volcanoes....one on my arm near my wrist and one on my neck just forward of my ear on where the lower jaw is..... Do they hurt? Don't effing ask! AL.
they love me too - you know what i'm going to say next :- Don't scratch! - had several infected by scratching and lasted for weeks. Worst bit is when you splat one and blood goes everywhere and you think 'cor, that one's had a good meal somewhere' and it turns out that it's you!
The one near my wrist is inflamed to nearly 2" in diameter.....with a central whatever it is they call the centre of a volcano.....and it's weeping clear liquid, so a Dettol soaked plaster is over that one now.... Can't see the one near my ear because it is just at the back of the jawbone / neck area... S*dding things......just had a near miss with another a few minutes ago... AL.
Hubby got bitten a few weeks ago by one, it went gross and septic he ended having to go to the doctors to get antibiotics for it.
Have seen a few of these bites with people coming to the pharmacy Some not very nice They seem to take an age to heal
Sounds to me that there are those who have allergic reactions to them. Thankfully, I'm not one of them. Either that or Swiss horseflies are limp-wristed pretenders to the horsefly Olympics.
If you can take it you need an antihistamine like piriton or something. A traditional remedy like magnesium paste is excellent for drawing out any yuk. Usually you get a hard little core where they bite you. But first a very swollen lump that from the middle weeps clear liquid. Keep using antihistamine and mag paste and it should draw out the core.. Once that is out ( much like a spot) it will heal. If it keeps getting bigger then go to go!! They will also give you antihistamine but also anti biotic. Try and get some citronella or deep to stop them getting you! Horseflies can give you nasty reactions and infection. Get better soon Al
Yes, going to a GP might take your mind of the discomfort of the bite, especially if it's somewhere nice like Mugello.
I'm recently over a nasty case of cellulitis, 3 days on a drip in hospital. Don't under estimate how bloody nasty a little bite or scratch can become! :frown:
I'm watching it........the one on my neck has nearly gone down, but the one near my wrist still looks a bit nasty........probably looks worse than it is because the steroid inhaler I use makes me bruise very easily.........but it is going down very slowly......Here's a photo.... Didn't half make me feel rough the day after it bit me though.... AL
Glad your feeling better mate, would have been a disaster if it had been bikini weather  DISCLAIMER: I took little or no pleasure in the search for this picture, I`m just happy to help .
I have to admit to giving the A&E doctor a "you cheeky bastard" look when he told me what I had! I'm just big boned...!!! Oh Matron...
